Book on Soviet Union History

Well I'm taking an AP European History and soon enough the Soviet Union is going to come up.

I was hoping to educate myself to battle my teachers total anti-communist viewpoint.

Is there a good book with a leftist viewpoint of the general history of the Soviet Union?

But no, really, I have no books to recommend. Just think about the claims and what backs them up. History books, as in the textbooks used in schools, are secondary sources and provide little to no actual evidence for the things they say.

What period are you looking at though? The revolution? Stalin? The Collapse?

Bahman Azad - Heroic struggle bitter defeat
-Gives an overview of much of Soviet History (with statistics on economics etc) but most relevant for studying why it collapsed

Roger Keeran and Thomas Kenny - Socialism Betrayed: Behind the Collapse of the Soviet Union
-Gives an overview of much of Soviet History (with statistics on economics etc) but most relevant for studying why it collapsed . Gives a better account of the actual collapse than the above book IMO
