The symbol of a fist clenching a red rose is a socialist symbol as far as I know.

Does anyone have any information on it? Where did it come from, who uses it mostly nowadays, does it still represent socialism, etc etc.

Here it is:

I may be mistaken, but isn't it a symbol of social democracy i.e. reformist socialism?

Yes, like GPDP said, it's a purely social democratic symbol. And it's not even that old - I think it only goes back to the 60s.

I'd like to see one like this except too fists together, like a fist bump, one holding a hammer the other a sickle both corssing to make the classic hammer and sickle

It's already been said that it's the symbol for social democracy. I'm pretty sure it's the one the DSA uses, and I know the "Socialist International" uses it, which should give a good indication of exactly what it means (social democracy, occasionally littered with "radical-sounding" rhetoric - a facade which requires little effort to see through).

Not meaning to make fun, but when I first read that I got this image of two frat students bro-fisting with red cups in each hand.

That's the logo of the Socialist International (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_International), I believe. I don't think it represents socialism, it represents the social democratic movement more, I'd said.

Well take from this what you will, it is the symbol of the Socialist international, which the UK Labour party is a member of.

The real symbol of socialism is the arm of a worker in possession of the means of production. A fist holding a rose is pretty and lame.

No, it comes from the song, "Give us Bread and Roses." The idea behind the symbol is we don't just want bread, we want the nice things in life also.

It's actually not a bad little symbol. It's just tied to some utterly awful people. Of course, in the SPUSA, we have a red carnation . I think in a couple years that will be gone. The social democrats had their last hurrah at the recent convention, and were only able to walk away with 1/4 representation.

Personally, I'd rather we all have roses after the revolution than we all have automatic weapons.

Chegitz G is right, at least in the English speaking context. It was originally supposed to represent the union between the old left (the fist) and the new hippie types (the rose).

In the revolution of 1974 in Portugal, the 25th of April, some time after it started, all the soldiers had a red carnation their rifles (in the tube from where the bullet leaves the rifle)

The revolution only shed one student's blood, when the trapped fascists tried to kill someone before they got captured. No one else was injured.
