I like asshole, because it can be universally applied more easily than the UK favorite "****" or the American pastime "dick." It's more along the lines of character as well, unlike fuck-face, which has to do with your face. And, it's usually in bad form to drag someone's mother into a swear off (what did mommy do wrong other than giving birth to an asshole?). "Piece of shit" would be my second favorite, only because I think that "asshole" (as a means of producing pieces of shit) is a bit stronger, and more easily applied to "assholes" who love to "give me shit." Coward is applicable only sometimes, but asshole can be applied on many occasions.

So, asshole FTW.
