We got some information and watched this (overly)dramatic video about "Invisible Children." These sources seem a bit too biased, so I am not going to sign any petition to Barack Obama to fund, and give some attention to the problem in Uganda with Kony, LRA, and children soldiers.
Basically, if you haven't heard of this program already, it's an organization to help liberate children soldiers of the LRA, disarm them, and arrest Joseph Kony.

Does anyone have opinions/sources about the other side of the story? I am not going to support a cause until I have facts from the whole spectrum. For all I know, this could just be capitalist propaganda! (JK...I'm not that much of a conspiricist )
Any thoughts/comments?

They did the same thing at my school and helping out. I'm actually part of the organizing committee for raising funds for the program.

I understand your desire for an unbiased report, but their is a serious problem with constantly trying to be unbiased without empathy or emotion. The situation in Uganda is tragic, pure and simple. There is no way to "overly" emphasize the horror that the Northern Ugandans suffer in the genocide. In fact, I don't think the scope of such horror can be accurately portrayed on film. I think any sort of relief for Northern Uganda is great and we should help out as best we can.

Thank you soooo much!! ^^
Sorry about my narrow-mindedness, and trying to get "real facts"...I didn't realize that the situation in Northern Uganda was that terrible and horrific. I think I'll sign that petition now...in hopes that the government will actually give a shit. Heck, maybe I'll even join the Invisible Children organization!
Thanks again! (btw...do they have committees all around the world, or is it just America??)

No hard feelings, comrade :) just try to be a little more sensitive next time. ;) I am pretty sure that Invisible Children is an international organ, but it is probably most active in the US. Feel free to email me (send me a message for the info) and I can discuss more about this with you.

I watched the same thing recently at my school, I also refused to sign until I read up on it. The video was INCREDIBLY biased. Although I despise the videos 'victims' regardless, the video makes it sound as if they are doing these things just to cause pain. As far as I can tell they want to 'liberate' north Uganda and bring about theocracy.
Obviously I don't support the movement or tactics, but such a biased video is nauseating.

The video is largely targeted at high school students. Because of this basically the only way to get kids interested is presenting the situation in a dramatic fashion. The dramatic presentation would be questionable if the situation in Uganda wasn't so dire and horrific. What's being done to children over there is beyond terrifying and there's no one who denying its happening.
This is not like a lot of other situations in the world in which the truth is hazy because of political bias. We know that these children are being kidnapped and being brainwashed into a theocratic army.
