rubber bullet question

does anyone know how incapacitating a rubber bullet really is? I am trying to find a nonlethal self defense weapon for my own personal safety.
I am thinking of buying a handgun or taser - the handgun i'd load with rubber bullets, b/c i get more shots than a taser, and i think more range, however I am not sure how incapacitating that truly is, vs, a taser, one shot, incapacitates no mater where you hit them.... a rubber bullet would allow my potential assailant to harm me, when he recovers, if i hit them anywhere except the stomach, groin, or head, no?

note: this post is NOT about weapons, shooting cops, etc, it really is a question for people that have been to demonstrations or know... chitchat.

tazers are better at stopping people although i imagine that rubber bullets are a better deterent.

I'd say rubber bullet, mostly because I'm more comfortable with guns. However, I think a gun is a better deterrent, and people won't be able to tell what kind of bullets it's loaded with. So, yeah.

Rubber "bullets" are not fired from firearms, they're fired from paintball guns. You can fire riot control shells from a 12 gauge shotgun, but thats it.

If you use a firearm in the US then it doesn't matter what kind of ammo you use, so you might as well use a round that will stop and kill your assailant. If you're uncomfortable with that then get pepper spray or a tazer, both a quite effective and will give you time to run away.

by the way, exept the IDF most army's use now a days plastic bullets that come in 357/.38/9 mm, .44, and .45 calibers

I stand corrected. All I've ever used as far as rubber bullets were either paintball guns or 12 gauge shotguns.

This is true, anti riot pigs in Northern Ireland have killed people with rubber bullets.

TBH the only way to guarantee not killing someone with a rubber bullet would probably to hit them only in the arms or legs which i could imagine is rather impractical in the heat of the moment, since the torso provides the biggest profile. In a gunfight you wont have time to take aim, especially with short range ammo.

For unarmed scenarios or blade fights my advice would be to learn a martial art. Preferably one that encorporates weapons training.

Sadly this is true. When I first moved to the neighborhood I live in it was full of right wing gun nuts. A friend of mine was actually shot at by some crazy old guy for taking a short cut across his property. (There was no fence or anything, just trying to cut down the time he had to walk to get home.)
