My gf and I were at the mall and signed up to win a trip to Florida or something (just for fun, we never win these things), and then a few days later, my gf got a call saying she won.

They rushed her on the phone and during the excitement and all, she gave them her credit card number and everything.

Later, she realized she probably got scammed. She tried calling Visa and cancelling the charge, but it was too late - the goddamned travel company had already charged her the $600 (which was $20 more than they said it would be)!

We looked on their site and found out their policy - we had to return the package that we get i the mail within 30 days of purchase. It's been 10 business days already and we're getting antsy. I keep telling her it's going to be okay, but I recently did some more research, and it turns out lots of people have been scammed. Now I'm not so sure it'll be okay. I'm actually kind of anxious about the whole thing. I'm not even sure they'll mail us the package, let alone refund us. Fucking shit.

So if anyone lives in Casselberry, Florida and sees/knows their president
Mr. J. Doug Fields, Jr., or the VP Mr. Jerry Fields, then give them a swift kick in the face and give me my money back.

I hate Special-T Travel Services Inc.

I remember once i got a letter saying i'd 'won' a caribbean cruise, all i had to do was ring a premium rate number to claim it.

About a week later the cheeky fuckers send me a holiday brochure asking me to pay Ł300.Luckilly i didnt hand over any credit card details or cheques, but it did cost me the cost of the call.

Normally i'm not a fan of state judicial procedures, but in the case of these slivvering weasels i make an exception. These fork tounged fuckers deserve a bed behind bars and a nice pair of blue overalls.

I constantly get phone calls saying I won cruises. The funny thing is that I never enter these scammy contest things therefore I just hang up the phone.

I probably wouldnt have bothered if it hadnt been for the 'testimonials' of smug couples they put on the literature going on about how reputable and great the company were.

I suppose thats what you get for giving capitalists the benefit of the doubt, especially shady ones like this.

Well it wasn't a random call - we did enter the contest, after all. It seemed pretty legit until we researched.

But yeah, not much else to say - just thought I'd rant.

In American you can contest this charge and the credit card company is legally required to launch an investigation. If they determine the charges are fraudulent they are legally obliged to transfer the collection efforts from you to the fraudsters. The fraudsters work by assuming that most people will give up and acceed to pay the fee. And sadly, for every person that contests the charges, there are two people that quietly pay it, so the fraudsters win out in the end. But that makes it even more imperative that you contest the charge. A company rep fromthe credit card company should direct your gf into how to go about doing this.

I don'[t know how this works if you had a debit card instead. I imagine the details are a little different.

There's a lot of scams in Florida I guess...

Here I was scammed over a non-existent magazine subscription and they've tried to scam me into some "job sign-up" that in reality was some sort of cell-phone scam but I avoided that quickly when I realized there's something suspicious. There's also labor-related scams, a friend of mine was given this job offer that was too good to be true (i.e. they are basically giving an 18 year old a job that is exactly the same as my father's) and later I looked it up and found out it was a scam. In my uni there's this ad about work for students and it's some sort of semi-scam were they make you sell knives and you attend this orientation and they "force you" to buy a set of knives that no one wants to buy I guess.
