View Full Version : Who the fuck is everybody these days?

Yazman

All you motherfuckers change your names so much nowadays, I don't know who the fuck most of you are anymore.

So post in here and state the usernames you used to have. I do still recognise some of you but I couldn't be fucked putting in the big list of people I recognise, so just do it anyway.

Here, I'll start:

-Registered as Yazman.
-Never changed username.

I feel with you comrade, you see somebody posting, think "Huh, who the hell is this guy???" and sometimes, (but only sometimes :p) you realise "OH, it's him/her!"
And therefore, as a free man I take pride in the words:
"Ich bin Rjevan and I will stay Rjevan!"

Okay, now a Maoist (not a "Stalinist") otaku must speak...

The problem is this: the anime subculture takes in young people that are marginalized by society, and often they are socially awkward. While entrenching themselves in this fantasy world (which I admittedly enjoy, but keep as a hobby), they seek other forms of alternative thought, and thus come across Communism via military fiction (anime like Black Lagoon, Full Metal Panic, First Squad, Hetalia, etc.), and thus are introduced to the old-style militarism of Soviet revisionism. For most male otaku, the internet is a place to also be an "internet tough guy", where you can take up "strongman" socialism while still dicking around on Gaia. I think that's why you see a lot of "Stalinists" with anime avatars.

It's a problem because more often than not, I'll meet someone in the fandom that claims to be a Communist, but 5 minutes into discussing it with them I find that they're more Red Army fetishists than actual Marxist-Leninists...

I agree with this analysis. Tankie weabos give legitimate marxist-leninists a bad name... I haven't encountered alot of these folks myself (revleft's been my first real experience with foruming, oddly enough) but the few I've encountered have put a bad taste in my mouth, leading me to question how much of this stuff they've actually read of Marx, Engels, Lenin, etc. It usually isn't all that much.

In any case, my liking of anime (and japanese pop music, etc.) is one of those little diversions to help me maintain some semblance of sanity in the reactionary capitalist society I'm stuck in. Tankie weabos aside, I don't quite get what all the haterism is about. :(

so true, i generally refer to these soviet fetishists as teenage "stalinogothics" instead of marxist-leninists

Also, as a designer, i have much respect for for great indepth/well designed anime/manga artists (mostly well written dystopian sci-fi and alot of social criticism. And in the case of Hayao Myazaki , also elements of marxism). But what i really hate about your typical weaboos, "stalinogothic" or not, is the uncritical glorification of Japanese society in every form (the extreme corporate cultural hegemony, the balant sexism, japanese imperialism, the conservative-puritain/sexual repressed fantasy paradox), which they see as completly normal.

This gets my goat, especially when I see these reactionary attitudes emerge in the daily lives of the weaboos I know. The veiled sexism sometimes is so thick I can cut it with a knife sometimes!
