Sorry if this has already been asked, but I used the search button and couldn't find anything...

Anyways, I just wanted some sources and views on the education right now in DPRK. My history teacher claims that in DPRK, children learn mostly false information, and historical milestones are twisted to make Korea look more glorious (than it actually is) i.e. the Korean War, which I've heard was a draw between Korea and U.S., but Koreans teach children that they won this glorious war.
And, she claimed that if you speak freely, and say your viewpoints in class, then you would most likely be arrested, or taken away (as a student!).

How oppresive is DPRK, exactly? I just wanted to ask you guys, because I know Americans' view points are VERY biased and contain much propaganda in their arguments.

Just wondering if this is what actually happens, and are there any good, mostly unbiased resources that I can find more information on the education of children (well, meaning elementary, middle, high school, and college) in DPRK?

thanks!:)

Quite ironic really considering the education system your teacher conforms to will try and pump it's students with pro-US propoganda. There may be some truth in your teachers statement but there is definitely some truth that the children in the US learn false information.

I know a book that goes into some details about DPRK's education reforms after independence, but I don't know anything about the subject now.

Well in a sense, they did win the war. But the education system in the United States is also full of crazy propaganda.

I'm no fan of the DPRK and from the rest of what I know of that country the teachers story seems at least plausible. However never take anything a teacher says about "communist" country's as given. Teachers are allowed to be lazy when it comes to the truth about communism. More independent research would have to be done to confirm or deny what your teacher said.

I'm sure they pump a great deal of propaganda into the classroom, but they do seem to have a very high quality of education for a third-world nation. Then again I base this off of the DPRK education page of wikipedia so it may not be true. Also the page has pretty much no citations so it may be all made up lies.
