Hello from Alberta, Canada! (One of the most right-wing provinces in Canada!)

I don't really know what things I'm suppose to write here, so I guess I'll just give a general over-view of myself.

I'm a very political person, and I've been interested in politics since I was about.... 8 or so? I grew up in a very political family. My father was socialist, and so was his father. (My Grandfather actually ran for the CPC, long ago.) Although, I'm not a fan of those people that just follow what their parents follow, I try to keep an open-mind and I have very different opinions than my father, on certain subjects.

Anyways, I described myself as a 'general' socialist; I agree with certain points from many different types of socialism.

I've been browsing the RevLeft community for a while now, I just recently joined up, as an act of trying to become more active, in politics.

One day, I'd like to enter politics in get involved at the federal level; (Although, not sure how I'm going to do that... Here in Canada, We have one active not so left as I'd like them to be party, the NDP.)

Hmm.. what else...

Ah yes, I live in Alberta, Canada, one of the most right-wing provinces in Canada! Traditionally, Alberta has voted in a right-wing party for a very long period of time, then, when another further-right party emerges, elects them for a long period time. (Currently we have the PC's in power and have been in power for around 40 years, or so. A new further-right party has emergered, The Wildrose Alliance party, who are bound to take power in 2011, or 2012.)

I'm a big fan of Che Guevara, as you can probably tell by my name. I've been to Cuba three times, and might be going back this Christmas! I believe that Cuba is developing socialism quite well, although a lot of you could probably argue that. (Yes, I indeed have a few problems with what's going on there; although, in my honest opinion, they're the closest we have to socialism in this world, currently.)

That's all I got for now comrades, let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Greetings from your neighbour. :) Yes, I'm in B.C.

Also, I hope to go to Cuba as well some time. I had a chance in June, but unfortunately it didn't work out. :(

Thank you all.

I will certainly check out that group.

@ InsertNameHere - Was a sad day when the liberals took power from the NDP in B.C.

Cuba is a very interesting nation. The last time I went there, I was there for the 50th anniversary of the Revolution. It was very interesting. Although, I was kind of disappointed, the ceremonies were only for a select few, which didn't include tourists. But it was still cool to be there during that time.

Yes that was a sad day. It was even worse when the Liberals got re-elected in may. That was my first time voting too. Gah, damn bourgeois parties. I'm sure Cuba is very interesting. I would love to go there to be able refute some common arguments as well. It actually has one of the highest literacy rates and standards of living in the world I'm pretty sure. That certainly says something as most of the rest of that area of the world is living in poverty.

Yeah, I was hoping the NDP would get back in... But oh well. It could've been worse. The PC's could've got in... lol.

Yeah, all the bourgeois propoganda about the living standards in Cuba piss's me off. I believe that you are right, about the literacy rates/standards of living. In fact, I believe that Cuba is ranked the third best Latin American country as far as living standards.. I mean, that's pretty damn good, like you said, considering the fact that they are still a developing country. It shows you that the bourgeois propoganda about socialism is total bunk.

EDIT -- Was possibly considering going to Venezuela to meet up with comrade Chavez (lol). I think it'd be neat to visit Venezuela, they don't get nearly as many tourists as other Latin American countries. Plus, it'd be cool to see how socialism is developing there.

That's actually very surprising, considering how many people have Che fetishes.
