I pick up this book in my favorite used book store and read the back. "this book will become a molotov cocktail in your very hands. jerry rubin has written THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTOof our era." ... "DO IT! is a handbook for american revolutionaries comparable to Che Guevara's GUERILLA WARFARE" ... "DO IT! is to be danced to. read aloud. studied. memorized. debated. burned. swallowed. eaten."

so i was understably frenzied, took the book home and read it start to back all night long. well ... i get past the into by eldrige cleaver and am ready to be set on fire. intsead i find a massive rehash of a bunch of incidents i've already read about but much better writers and a lot of advice that i have already heard by much better speakers. i imagine that for most of us this book gives nothing new. however, its still good even exciting. its more of a reaffirmation than a new communist manifesto or guerilla guide. some interesting things, a whole lot of admiration for Che (his rivals anyone's on this site), and a lot of hilarity. if you've read any of abbie hoffmans books especially SOON TO BE A MAFOR MOTION PICTURE you won't be impressed but if you know nothing about yippies, this book probably will set you on fire. its at least damn interesting and a quick read that will hold your attention the whole way through, unusual for the political books i've been reading lately.

I've got a couple of books on guerrilla warfare written by americans/special forces people and they have anti-communist comments in both of them.

One refers to fidel as being a brilliant guerrilla but "unfortunately communist"

and the other has a section on slogans and one if them are as follows:

"with God and patriotism we will overcome communism"

there are more just like that in there too......

Another great book along the subject of the Yippies, was "Steal this Dream". I forget the author. It is a very detailed look at Abbie Hoffmans life and experiences.
