Basically, tomorrow, at school we're doing this Question-time-esque debate in English. I anticipate a lot of debate on the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and a lot of people in my class are quite conservative and basically pig-ignorant. I think the majority are pro-war in the east, but I want to show them the imperialistic, brutal nature of this war. So if people have got any statistics or facts or any arguments against occupation in the east I'd like to hear them.

Although the main aim of this thread is find the exact number, or what the general consensus is, at least, on civilian casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan. Pretty much every source I find gives a totally different number, I've found numbers for Iraq between 100,000 and 1,000,000. Can anyone help clear up on this issue?

Also anti-occupation arguments against this would appreciated. Pro-occupation arguments are usually things like ' but it is the war on terror' and 'the Taleban must be stopped' and 'the west must bring democracy to Iraq and Afghanistan'. So think about countering things like that.

Thanks everyone.
