Who here is excited about this? I am, very much. I always thought The Hobbit was miles better than Lord of the Rings, more humour and a better story. I can't wait to see how they adapt The Battle of the Five Armies and Smaug. I read a interview with Guillermo del Toro of it in 'Total Film' and I can trust it will be good. He seems sound. And obviously Peter Jackson made the LOTR trilogy and he is sound.

del Toro is an excellent director with a real flair for the fantasy. I don't see how the book can be stretched across two films though...

Explain yourself. What is this flaming spam shit about? If you don't have a reasonable explanation this is a verbal warning.

As directors go Del Toro is a god.
His films are brilliant (I include Orphanage in 'his' films even thought it wasn't entirely 'his')

Hobbit is also a bloody good book.
It has enough in it to make two films, what with the battles and the adventures and what not

I haven't read the hobbit in bloody ages. I'll have to go back and have another look.

^^

It is, but Del Toro didn't direct he produced it, however the director was clearly a student of Del Toro or Del Toro had a lot of input as it has the same kind of feel as alot of Del Toro Films. Lots of suspense, and a bloody good/weird story line

They are going to stretch it out abit by going into the details of what Gandalf is doing when he leaves the others on those occasions.

is it going to be in the same style as the lotr trilogy because i know theres an animated version out already, unsurprisingly it wasnt that successful

I agree with Pogue, the battle is going to be epic with a capital e. Let's hope they don't cut a bunch of shit out like they did in LOTR, that said they were still bloody brilliant films and if they are anything to go by this will be to. Any word on who is playing Bilbo yet? I heard rumours of David Tennant a few months ago and frankly, it made me want to kill myself.

I can't see how Tennant could do it but I don't think its as bad as you say, I quite like him.

I don't think they'll cut much else, I suppose its al down to how well they put the good stuff in, the battle of the 5 armies has the ability to be amazing.

Did anyone ever play the Hobbit game for Gamecube, still remains one of my favourite games ever.

Yeah The Hobbit was a pretty sound game, good puzzles and stuff. I think I traded it in for Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, big mistake.

I really hope they don't screw up with the Gandalf story, that would be a tragedy, one of the good things about LOTR was that despite leaving out some good bits, they didn't change too much.

I think it'll be a great film, however I did get see Guillermo del Toro speak last year, and he said he was making this film just for the money, so he could do the other films that he really wants to do.
In fact, he seemed down on this film, didn't even talk about, just called it a "Hollywood' movie.
So, take from that what you will.
