Haven't seen any appreciation for this film on here, but i fucking love it!
It has to be the funniest British film of all time, never liked Richard E Grant till i saw this film, and if you havent seen it i DEMAND you to see it as soon as possible... It's intelligent and gets you hooked right from the start. I sort of see the reality in it, with two equally fucked up individuals as two best friends, one pulling the other down into crazy boozed up situations reluctantly... heres one of my fave scenes

One of my all time favourite films and probably one of the most quotable.
My favourite scene is when Uncle Monty breaks into I's room with make-up on and eventually declares "I mean to have you, even if it's by burglary".
I think Uncle Monty is a wonderful character all round frankly.

Its impossible to choose from a fave scene or fave quote, it is like every frame of the film is perfect, but another fave quote from Withnail is when they are driving they go past a 'Accident Blackspot sign' and he goes 'These aren't accidents, their throwing themselves into the road gladly!'

Why does anyone like any film? There isn't some single specific reason, it is just an amazing film, i dont think i know anybody who doesnt like it. Just trust me... Clips dont do any film any justice anyway

The basic premise is that Withnail (the bloke in that first clip drinking lighter fluid) and his friend Marwood (who is never actually named in the film. He is the eponymous "I") are out of work, alcoholic actors who decide that they need to escape to the country. Naturally hilarity ensues as they are pretty much "fish out of water". There are other plot complications, for example Uncle Monty (who TAT has mentioned) the man that owns the house they are staying at. It's known for having many, many quotable scenes and lines ("We demand the finest wines known to humanity, we want them here and we want them now!" for example). The soundtrack, also, is fucking epic. The ending is heavily implied to be quite tragic.
I absolutely love this film and count it amongst my favourites but I can understand how some people wouldn't. It certainly appeals to people who enjoy a certain type of humour as their are very few out and out "gags" and the pacing can frustrate people.

Technically you know what happens after the end. However, I'll remove the spoiler. I hadn't really considered that.

I was meant to be in a production of it, but that seems to have fallen through
