Does anyone have any information about German industrialisation? Specifically the role of the universal banks and how the state interacted with economic life?

I assume you've read Lenin's Imperialism? IIRC he specifically deals with the interaction of German finance and industry. It also receives treatment in Hilferding's Finance Capital

Aside from that, I'm sure that there are a host of specialised works available from Amazon or the like. Its not something that crops up often in general histories. Can't recall if Hobsbawm deals with it in his Age of Capital/Empire

Thanks! That's brilliant!
It's so hard to find anything that isn't just a regurgitation of Gerschenkron.
The problem with Lenins imperialism is that he only really deals with Germany after 1880, and doesn't really go into the history of German banking.
I'm looking for a historical peice of writing that documents from around 1848 onwards.
I'll check out the other stuff though
