The British National Party was forced to amend its constitution today so that it does not bar members on grounds of race or religion.
The move came after the Equality and Human Rights Commission started a county court action against the far-right party, accusing it of breaching the race relations laws.
But proceedings at Central London County Court were adjourned after lawyers said that the party leader, Nick Griffin, would put a revised constitution before a BNP party meeting next month.
In the meantime, Robin Allen, QC, for the Commission, said that Mr Griffin had said that the party had agreed not to accept any new members until the new constitution was in place.

So much for Griffin's...
"The Equalities Commission hysteria over British National Party membership is nothing but a PR stunt which has no legal grounding whatsoever, said BNP leader Nick Griffin MEP."
"Mr Griffin said the BNP was an exempted organisation under Section 25 and Section 26 of the Race Relations Act which allow for exclusive ethnic organisations with a membership of 50 or more. The BNP has never been in breach of any of the provisions of the law in terms of its membership and Mr Phillips knows this to be the case, he said."

The BBC is now trying to say they will consider non-white members, which is clearly not the case.

?
The BBC is merely reporting on what happened in court:-
"But Robin Allen QC, counsel for the commission, said Mr Griffin had agreed to present party members with a revised constitution at its general meeting next month and the party had agreed not to accept new members in the meantime.
The BNP agreed to use "all reasonable endeavours" to revise its constitution so it did not discriminate on what are termed "protected characteristics" in clause four of the Equality Bill - which include race, gender and religious belief."
In fact the BBC corrospondent expressed doubts:-
"But BBC correspondent Andy Tighe said it remained to be seen whether Mr Griffin could persuade his party to allow the change."

I think it would be honestly amusing if droves of minorities registered as BNP members, and hijacked it. Turn it into a satire of itself.

is this actually happening? I doubt if the average BNP member will allow their constitution to be ratierfired. Hope it does caues i would love to join myself....just the novelty of having a BNP card and being a black lad.
A pal of mine did point out but that by joining up your giving them cash to support their cause. But still the novelty factor of sitting in the middle of a BNP meeting...oooo what mischief I could have

lol.
The dutch version of the BNP doesn't even allow any members. There's just one politician, and even all other Members of Parliament (and European parliament, total 14) for his party aren't partymembers.

Could the same thing happen over here? Is it possible Griffin could have no membership and just work off donations and the money recieved being an MEP?

this is going to piss off the BNP very much.
or they can change their constitution to deny human rights like what pauline hanson said in australia.
Human right of free speech? hypocritical when they dont respect muslims and ethnics. the freedom of migration, refugees, security/safety of people, freedom to change citizenship.............
fuck the fascist BNP, they are pathetic

Yes... "BNP to consider non-white members".
Headline speak for:-
"The BNP agreed to use "all reasonable endeavours" to revise its constitution so it did not discriminate on what are termed "protected characteristics" in clause four of the Equality Bill - which include race, gender and religious belief."

Amusing perhaps but unlikely.
How many thousands of pounds would be put into the BNP coffers before there were enough "non racist" members to fundamentaly change the party?
Entryism is realy only a sensible option if a group wished to take over the party. How many anti-fascists would want control of the BNP, even if it was completely revised?

I'm not saying anyone should contribute, just register as a member of the party on their voter registration cards.

There's entryism and there's entryism.
There's probably MI5 entryism in the BNP as in other racist parties, but then that's probably the same in all our political ones too if we're honest.
Joining the BNP in a massive pack would be hilarious I agree, but we all know that if they thought they outnumbered you, they'd probably try and get aggressive and violent, because they are that pathetic.

BNP blogs are trying to calm the waters of furious members by pointing out that a new member cannot vote for 2 years.:(
To put enough entryist people in for long enough would probably finance their election campaign.

Two points, first, entryism in a fascist organisation is pointless because they more likely not to be internally democratic.
Second, does anyone think this is a bad thing? It represents the state aiding the BNP PR campaign to become mainstream and respectable. Just don't expect the hypocrites in the SWP to protest against this decision (despite the fact they're protesting against Question Time) anytime soon.

Speaking of BNP membership, Wikileaks is supposed to release a new BNP membership list today. At least that's what they claim on their Twitter (http://twitter.com/wikileaks/status/4984912095).
