Hello Comrades.
Whenever I am debating with somebody and they say
''So do you think if I work my ass off and somebody working with me is being lazy should he get paid just as much as I?''.
I know what the answer to this would be but for some reason I have a lot of trouble putting it into words.

Thanks :D

You should try looking in the High School Commie's Guide I know that same thing has come up numerous times.

Wage labor is incompatible with communism. Being payed the same is not communism.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't capitalism the system where the people who work their asses off get virtually nothing while people who don't work are filthy rich?"

"In a capitalist society, the lazy person actually gets paid more." Or something along those lines.

''So do you think if I work my ass off and somebody working with me is being lazy should he get paid just as much as I?''

First, I'm quite interested; why would he work his ass off? He already knows that he get the same pay as everyone else. It's not that "Communism" tricks him into working hard, and after he invents everything and makes everyone happy, 50 years later, only then he finds out that he get the same amount as his neighbour who did nothing in those 50 years.

Number two, "the pay". Your opponent seems to be interested in the money, not the job that is at hand. Why? Communism does not force people into doing unpleasant things. Sure, there are many works that are indeed unpleasant and has to be done, but those could sooner or later be automatised or circulated by the community (like garbage collection).

Instead, it seems to me that he is the lazy one. As long as he don't get enough money, he won't move a finger.

Being lazy is a right capitalism has made possible. Why begrudge it?

Check out, Paul Lafargue's (http://www.marxists.org/archive/lafargue/index.htm) pamphlet The Right To Be Lazy (http://www.marxists.org/archive/lafargue/1883/lazy/)

Isn't that what managers are for?

TBH, other than self satisfaction, which wage-labour steals anyway, I don't see the point in working hard in a capitalist system.

If people werent forced to do jobs they dont like, thered be no motive or opportunity to be lazy.

My answer? Yes. No matter how hard working you are, you are just as human as anyone else. Thinking otherwise is moronic elitism.

Besides, paid equally... with what? As I understand by the time we get communism, monetary system has been trashed twice over.

ask them to define work hard. coal miners will never make as much as coal exec, even though the miners are working harder/doing all of the actual work.

Some people like to work hard, but in my industry the harder one works the more the boss expects out of everyone else.
Working hard is actually detremental to co-worker relationships.
You work too hard and you are with the boss, a 'ball-licker' ;)
You work as eveyone else works then you are with the workers and all is well.
This 'bust your ass' mentality is usually an attempt to gain positions in your workplace. Hoping to get noticed by the bosses, and finding favor in their eyes.
This is detremental to a cohesive work force.

All that said, in a socialist society, working hard for the industrialization of the country could be seen as a good thing but as Necro said, we are all just human, and working too hard will be seen in a negative light.
