Hi.
My name is William and I'm from Rancho Cordova, Ca. which is a suburb of Sacramento.
The Sacramento area is one of the most conservative areas of California with the exception of the downtown area where mostly young working class, bohemian, and Gays live as well as us older lefty's, hippies, and intellectuals tend to live or frequent. Many a coffee shop, book store and progressive tavern. While an oasis for us of the Left, surrounded by mostly extreme right wingers with an environment hostile to the Left in any form as well as extremely anti-union and a completely cowed population with very high republican voter registration county wide. Other than the Marxist School which holds reading/study groups, speakers and occasional films; I'm not aware of much else.
I first joined a Marxist group in 1975 with the Socialist Labor Party (De Leonism), as well as registered Peace and Freedom that year. Last year I joined the Party for Socialism and Liberation; but I don't have any local involvemt as there is none here. Overall; I ascribe to Leninist Marxism. I'm a big fan of how East Germany functioned and feel it would have been more successful had the U.S.S.R. not continued to punish them for the war. But as you can see by recent polls the majority of Germans that hailed from the old East Germany they feel things were better then. If it were still there I'd move there in preference to the life I've had in the U.S.
Hope to make contacts here in an effort to get more involved and of course learn more. The study of Marxism is a life-long endeavor in my opinion. Looking forward to exchanges with many here!:)

Hi and welcome! :)

But as you can see by recent polls the majority of Germans that hailed from the old East Germany they feel things were better then.
Indeed, according to official polls 62% of all Eastern Germans think life in the DDR was better and wish it back. But of course it was not perfect and I still prefer the USSR (till the revisionists rose). ;)
