my local university library has tons of great marxist books but very few decent ones on anarchism, so in my search for information on anarchist Theory, I've come here to ask people: which author, do you think, has the best all round account of the anarchist communist position? I've found the anarchist FAQ to be very decent and to have a detailed level of theory, but I suspect it has missed some arguments other people could bring to bear... so, what's your vote?

You may be interested in the journal Anarchist Studies. I really haven't read much from it, so I can't give an informed opinion of it, but it looks promising from what I've seen. I don't think they have free online access, but your university library should have access.

I am agreed.
for me, kropotkin is describing really the best. any topic which he takes, he writes and criticize the best. I never saw someone who explain anything so good like he does it.
but also, for people who meet themselves first time with anarchism, good books are also: daniel guerin: anarchism, from theory to action (http://dwardmac.pitzer.edu/Anarchist_Archives/bright/guerin/guerincolworks.html). it is some basic and practical explanations. and alexander berkman: what is communist anarchism (http://dwardmac.pitzer.edu/Anarchist_Archives/bright/berkman/comanarchism/whatis_toc.html)? berkman really criticized here perfect (easy for beginners) every part of system. he is using also people's common language, without hard phrases (or maybe translator used easy language, I read in my language this book "sta je to anarhisticki komunizam (http://www.inventati.org/anarhizam/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2195)"

There are a few good books in my local uni library. However, I don't recall the titles, and have just written down the call numbers (which won't help you).
When I'm next in there, I'll try and write down the titles and authors and put up a blog post.

I've found the Anarchist FAQ to actually be quite thorough, if you are willing to take the time to go through all ~1000 written pages. Kropotkin is great for describing general organizational principles, problems, and ideological foundations. I would highly recommend The Conquest of Bread. The first chapter alone sent me on a music pirating spree. The Pitzer page mentioned above is a great source for online works. Kropotkin and Emma Goldman are my anarcho-communists fav's for theory reading at the moment, though Goldman does not cover theory quite as thoroughly as most of the other names already mentioned in this thread. She was more prolific as a short essayist and propagandist, excepting her autobiography.
