Any opinions on Oliver Stone's justifiable paranoia?
I just finished watching and was very impressed. I Didn't necessarily dig the glorification of Kennedy, and wasn't so sure, coming from Stone, that the facts were straight. Other than that, I admired the exposure of a conspiracy that America bought so long ago. I also appreciated the message that Kostner's character keeps repeating: "THe government is threatened by truth" and "I want to create a future where my children are not afraid to speak the truth."
I haven't seen it, but I know that, somewaht strangely, JFK is Fidel Castro's Favourite film!(sic!)

I have it on DVD, it's one the best movies ever.
Have you guys ever read up on the conspiracy ? It's so amazing that it was covered up. It really scares me because if you've studied it you know that this came from really high up.

Definitely rates for me as one of the best comedies ever!
The hell with JFK and RFK. They got what they deserved. The hell with JFK's lackey Johnson too!
Even though I'm pretty sure the CIA pulled that one off, I can at least hope that Castro had something to do with it for "payback".

I don't know, I'm no JFK supporter, but if it wasn't for him not sending the air support in the Bay of Pigs, Cuba would be a U.S colony. Also, before he died he was about to sign a bill that would have ALL of our troops out of Vietnam by '65, when Johnson came into power that bill was crumpled up into a nice little ball and thrown away.
JFK was no great president, but he did do a few good things, have you read much about him ? Plus he was banging Marilyn Monroe.
Castro had nothing to do with his assasination, it was all of JFK's buddies.

LOL...yeah...I give him high marks for Marilyn Monroe, but JFK and his brother sat on their asses during the Civil Rights movement. They also had some nasty little backroom deals with the mob. The only thing, I give JFK credit for, was that he was going to most likely withdraw from Vietnam. Scumbag Johnson made sure that that didn't happen so as to keep all his Defense contractor friends happy.
Remember, there were U$ planes involved in the Bay of Pigs invasion. They had changed the markings on the tails and wings so as to look like Cuban planes. Fortunately for Cuba, they had been tipped off to the invasion and the planes and dealt with them accordingly. Also remember, JFK gave the go ahead for that invasion, and he was the one to enact the embargo.....but not before he sent his press secretary to Cuba to buy 1300 cigars. I maintain...he was a scumbag.

I agree, he was a scumbag, but I think on the scale of American presidents he was less of a scumbag. I know he ordered the Invasion, but he also made it so Cuba had a chance at winning by not sending the second airstrike. I know he wasn't trying to help Cuba, he was trying to save face, but still.

i agree. Like I said, i didn't dig the JFK-idolatry that ran thematically throughout the film. He got his just desserts, and the CIA is most definitely the perpetrator, probably not the only faction involved.
Oh, and this thread is in LITERATURE because, although there was disscussion some months ago concerning a forum for entertainment, such a forum has not come into existence. I felt this thread was most appropriate in Literature, as music, chit chat and others seemed the more inappropriate.
WE NEED AN ENTERTAINMENT/ART FORUM!

I was just joking by calling you a fucker.
You want to hear something shocking ? I think (as far as American presidents go) that JFK wasn't all that bad.
Reason #1. Before he died he was about to sign a bill getting all of our troops out of Vietnam by 1965.
Reason #2. He showed himself to be a pretty level headed guy during the Cuban Missle Crisis. A lesser man would have gotten us blown the fuck up.
Reason #3. That accent was so cool. When he tried to say Cuba it would literally sound like "Cuber".
Reason #4. He served Marilyn Manroe up. Any guy that got into bed with that woman has to be at least a little cool, Johnny Rosseli included.
