Does anyone here read the Boondocks? It's mostly turned into jokes about popular culture, but the older ones in the anthologies talk quite a bit about Socialism although not directly. Great stuff.

Ya, funny stuff. I read them every week in the Sunday paper.
I miss the Far Side.

The far side was never leftist, was it?
And yes, I love the boondocks. I put it up on my locker weekly.

The Far Side was never political, it was really funny though.

The Boondocks had a strip where Jar-Jar Binks changes his name to Jabari-Jabari Binko, dresses up like a black panther, and talks about the re-distribution of wealth.

I love reading the Boondocks. A lot of people in my area complained about it saying that it was disrespectful (especially to the Bush administration) and all that. I think its funny as hell.

McGrueder is seriously in a war with BET. He is like their worst enemy, he had huey talk about why he doesn't support black nationalism anymore, and Huey claims it's because of BET. Classic stuff.

Gary Larson was a comic genius, although you may have had to be slightly disturbed to findall his stuff funny.

I read the Boondocks, I was reading them when they were originally in The Source Hip Hop Magazine. Then they were basically about teh faults with Balck Nationalism and Media. But I do remember a recent strip that wasn't a comic at all it was a stand against The Bush Administration and Black something. It said, "In protest to the war in Iraq and the Bush Administration and the Black...The Boondocks will not be appearing today" That was some real shit right there!

Great Stuff...I found a few threads on this. Thought I'd revive it. I watched Aaron McGruder several times on both Politcally Incorrect & Real Time with Bill Maher. He's awesome.

I used to know the assistant artist to Jim Davis (garfield creator). He was like the second in command, or something.
Really funny guy, his house decor was about what I'd expect from a cartoonist.
He helped me on my Senior Project (Which was on cartoons). We developed a comic strip as well (for the class). Pretty cool

Boondocks is my favorite comic in the papers. Doonesbury is a close second...
We need more politically-oriented comics...
Michael Moore recently wrote a tribute to The Boondocks... it is worth googling for. It was a great read.

"With bodacious wit, in just a few panels, each day Aaron serves up—and sends up—life in America through the eyes of two African-American kids who are full of attitude, intelligence, and rebellion. Each time I read the strip, I laugh—and I wonder how long The Boondocks can get away with the things it says. And how on earth can the most truthful thing in the newspaper be the comics?”
