Of course I believe they deserve everything they are paid and much more, but why do you feel they have a particularly grim job? There certainly are more people in the RMT than just tube drivers, being one of the barrier men looks like shit, especially when you have to deal with angry drunk folks, in fact defending yourself can get you suspended as it did to Jerome Bowes (http://www.rmtplatform.org.uk/node/115) and this guy http://www.nce.co.uk/rmt-workers-strike-again/81390.article.

Cleaners also get completely terrible conditions on the tube.

i agree with you on everything -

its just that I had a friend who was a tube driver and he had a person jump in front of his train - he was never the same again - also when he was doing the job he got sick a lot...those are some of the reasons for my comment on tube drivers in particular
