I've started getting a bit into techno, and was wonderin' if anyone could throw a few good artists or songs my way?

And before anyone says it, already got Face Down Ass Up. ;)

Maybe not techno, but trance. DJ Satomi has a good track in "Castles in the Sky". DJ Tiesto always puts out some really great sets. Armin van Buuren, of course.

Paul van Dyk - "Angel"

Otherwise I would recommend some of the "darker" futurepop bands, like VNV Nation.

Paul Van Dyk, Van Burren, there are some good suggestions so far. Some lesser known artists are really good as well like ATB:

Or you could listen to some oldschool (well not really) stuff like Prodigy (amazing live shows) or Darude:

Pendulum remix is pretty cool (which is also fantastic when played live :))

Try Deezer, you can listen to most music of lesser known artists for free without interruptions, lots of techno and other electro there.

Hardcore is considered the lowest of the low in terms of dance music, at least here in Ireland. I can't stand hardcore music, it's just so cheesey.

I'd consider Guetta and Tiesto to be more along the lines of trance rather than techno, although obviously the genres and styles overlap quite alot.

you might not like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3ILQAT69Jc
but to call it cheesey?

(this song is by the way mostly briljant for dutch speakers, the samples are from some christian fundamentalist complaining how house music is music of the devil and is destroying the youth by tempting them to the dark side )

(this song is by the way mostly briljant for dutch speakers, the samples are from some christian fundamentalist complaining how house music is music of the devil and is destroying the youth by tempting them to the dark side )I think when he says hardcore, he actually is referring to the UK varient of happy hardcore that is still produced today (unfortuanetly). In order to sell as many records as they can they basically pitch up trancy sounding club music and label it 'hardcore'. Where talking DJs Breeze and Styles, Hixxy, Dougle and Gammer, and Scott Brown.

Hardcore as you know it (which is basically the same the rest of the world) obviously is only cheesy in its most mainstream form, and even then its acceptable because of the musics structure and sound balancing it out. UKhardcore really is just cheesy for the sake of being cheesy. Not that theres anything wrong with that, just it annoys me how they steal the title of hardcore...just to sound hard.

On that note, whats your opinion on the melodic side of mainstream, such as the tracks by Korsakoff, Outblast, Endymion, Evil Activities, Ophidian, Tha Playah, and DJ D?

psyco yer a man of taste as for what yer man rednordam i would like to suggest that 'the melodic side of the mainstream' is a watering down of the genere in an attempt to attract more people. aside evil activites makes me feel like a young pup. for me its no better than cascada.

psyco what you think of speedcore and noisecore my i ask?

Yea that's what I was talking about, "happy hardcore". It makes my ears bleed. :cursing:

Yea that's what I was talking about, "happy hardcore". It makes my ears bleed. :cursing:Yep. My ears too:D. It always made me laugh at how the british producers used to turn there noses up at the mid90s dutch and german variant that was in the charts of the time. They (british cheese mistroes) where the worst for it, because they took themselves seriously in my view.

@harry roberts: Thats generally my assuption of it aswell. I will say that there have been some great efforts though, but mainly around 2000-2004. After that its all starting to sound the same, and rather generic. Thus, I do not buy records anymore (with the exception of Genosha and Symp.tom).

I cannot over state how good Dogzilla Without You is, its been my favourite tune for ages, and Gabriel and Dresden would be my favourite DJ's at the minute even though the majority of their stuff is remix's. And then you have the old reliables like Tiesto, AVB, PVD, Axwell, Deadmau5, Cosmic Gate, Above and Beyond, Prodigy etc.

a lot of these are too far to the trance side of things for my liking (not that I don't like some trance tracks, we won't go there though). The two can blend quite well...
