I just picked up the book called Fast Food Nation....i don't know if many of you have heard about it.
anyway it discusses the new phenomenon of fast food and even processed food mainly in the United States. When i first heard about the book, i was expecting it to be simply about the stuff that goes into the food. it does include that but it also discusses the labour habits and franchisement habits of some of the top companies in the US.
Very good book, but you'll never want to eat in fast food restaurants or eat meat again so be forewarned if you aren't already a vegetarian.

Yeah, I saw this book a while ago. i was going to buy it, but didn't bother.
So you'd recommend it, eh?
I should have bought it really. It was a "buy three and only pay for two" deal. I was going to buy "No Logo" and "Fast Food Nation", I also saw a book there about Michael Moore's TV Nation (I think that's what it's called). I ended up getting none of them, mainly because I didn't think the Mike Moore one would be that good, and I didn't feel like ODing on politically based books.
I also desperately needed to spend all my money on reggae albums. Oh well, next time. At least now I know it is good, having your recommendation.
I'm not a vegitarian, I doubt I'll become one either. Food is for sustenance.

You should have bought NoLogo cani, it's a great book. Also, any of Michael Moore's books are amazing. Stupid White Men and Down Size this.
I'm almost finished a similar book, it's called "Diet for a New America." It was written by John Robbins, heir to the Baskin Robbins franchise.
It makes a very very powerful case for vegetarianism. It goes indepth into the moral issues of killing animals, but also spends a third of the book on the health aspects of eating flesh. The last third is on pesticides, I'm reading that now. I recommend this book.

Read the Jungle by Upton Sinclar (I think). That is the most lurid description of the meat industry ever written (I don't care for the writing style involved). It launched meat inspections in the US 100 years ago

Eric Schlosser (sp?) the author of Fast Food Nation was recently interviewed on Irish TV, mainly about his new book, Reefer Madness. I think I'll record the interview and upload it for some of you people to listen to....anyone interested?
Stand by.

Has anyone heard of "Captive State" and "The best democracy money can buy", also "Globalisation and its discontents"?
The last one was written by a Nobel Economics prize winner so should be good.
