A relative of mine just lent me the novels of "The Man With the Golden Gun" and "Moonraker". My question is, does Bond seem like a bit of a cappie to you guys (tuxedo, martinis etc) and what is your opinion of him overall? Who is your fav bond actor, and least fav movie?

My fave bond actors have to be either Roger Moore, or Sean Connery. Least favourite movies would be the newer ones, they just suck.

The new ones suck. Sean Connery owns my face. I haven't thought about his political orientation, frankly, I don't care! As long as he keeps on foiling plots and getting the ladies, he's cool in my books.

Don't really care about James Bond, he's so boring. Yeah the gadgets are cool, but the action is so predictable.. It all looks way too staged imo.
And the last ones are the most annoying ever, I agree.
I didn't even bother to go see the last one, die another day...
All that publicity about Martini, Aston Martin, Bmw and Omega doesn't really impress me either.
Bond, time for you to retire buddy, you're getting old.

I hate him as a capitalist-imperialist spy, but the older movies are kick ass.

Goldeneye was the best. Die Another Day was, without a doubt, the shittiest movie I've seen for a long time.

We should make our own movie about a KGB agent. We could call him James Bondenko or something. =P

Comrade Gorley

Actually we could easily make Bond a commie and Blofeld a Nazi. I mean come on, a white, bald guy (think skin heads) who is incredibly wealthy and oppresive to all his henchmen (who seems to be exclusively British/American) could easily be a fascist, and in "Never Say Never Again" Bond's friend Felix was depicted as black, and on top of that many of the "Bond girls" were foreigners, so he could easily be a socialist. (Well, not easily, but with some liberal thinking.)

James Bond is ok, good to see john Cleese in it now, he's so funny

Comrade Gorley
4th May 2003, 21:14
Yeah, I'm glad Cleese doesn't just re-use Desmond's shtick.

The last scene with Q in the series, when he leaves on the elevator, was "The World Is Not Enough"s best scene.

We'll miss you, Desmond Llewelyn. :(

bond is pretty cool

seem like a"bit" of a capitalist? he represents GBR, a capitalist nation. of course he does. although he has probably slept with more communists than any of us ever will.

fortunately, the franchise works with a lot of socialist ideals. typically, Bond goes after capitalists. I can't even remember a single movie where Bond was sicked on another country. except goldeneye, sort of. anyway, its ussually some irch ass pig who allows greed to get the better of them and bond has to stop them before they do too much. formulaic, but thats whats so good about it.

connery is the best. noone else even comes close.

anybody see "From Russia With Love"

in that, Bond thinks this spectre agent is a russian spy. this spectre agent always calls bond "old man", so bond says

"old man? is that what you chaps in smirsch (spell?) call each other?"

anybody know what smirsch, or whatever the hell he says, means?

Hazard, SMERSH- Smert' Shpionam- Death to Spies- was a counterintelligence unit employed by the Soviet military since the beginning of WWII(maybe even earlier). They were very effective.

I agree with Ragingbull firstoff.
Secondly, read the books. I only like one, because it was interesting as hell and had the landmark quote of all books that sums up the series. Bond asks what should be done about this japanese guy's wife, and the informing agent says :"Kill her, she is too ugly to live."
Yeah. Bond was your typical queen's man-a suave bigot and imperialist scum. For more inspirational figures, look to the Shanties for Rude Boy figures.

thanks notyetacommie, very useful

makes me wonder if the "smurfs" thread in chitchat is on to anything

the way see it, the smurfs now seems more like capitsalist propaganda than anything. well disguised as socialist propaganda

Comrade Gorley
15th May 2003, 03:23
Capitalist propoganda disguised as communist propoganda disguised as children's entertainment?

Peyo had a LOT of time on his hands. :cheesy:

15th May 2003, 07:01
comrade, thats just about EXACTLY what I was thinking

the smurfs really wasn't anything BUT capitalist propaganda

there was no real disguise. the pathetic, weak, cowardly smurfs(socialists) and the powerful, giant, experimental "God-like" capitalists. and the fact that smurf sounds an awful lot like smersh proves that the capitalist pigs were brainwashing their kids into viewing their masters as Gods and their enemies as gay, blue little fairy people.

Comrade Gorley
15th May 2003, 15:03
Perhaps, but than again they were potrayed as friendly and at ease, and Hefty Smurf and Ogre Smurf were anything BUT "gay". And the capitalists were basically poor and pathetic, and always failed.

James Bondenko, that was funny.

Of course Bond is a cappie, spying for England, fighting against guys with Russian accents. Who cares, I like the movies. Bond is a smooth ass pimp.

Bond is about as relevant these days as .... I don't know but he isn't relevant the misogynistic wanker. But for what it's worth.. not much, Oddjob was my favourite.

Sean Connery is trapped in his own, bad-accented image, I am afraid
