Warning: This poem sucks. I couldn't sleep last night and started thinking, and this just came to me. I scrawled it down on paper, and went to sleep. So, the beat is probably screwed up, and it probably sucks in general, but here it is.

It's about small countries who are attacked by the U.S. for no apparent reason and obviously have no hope, no matter how honourably they fight.

UNKNOWN MARTYR
You stand at the front line-
Your clammy hands tightly clenching your gun
Your perspiration dampening your uniform
Your feet shuffling in their heavy boots
-as you stare at the gray sky.

The others look at each other, looking for assurance
But though ever eye is hopeful, none is confident
Each is patriotic but not heroic
How much are they willing to sacrifice?

You can hear the enemy-
Singing their anthems
Trading racial slurs
Laughing at jokes
-because they are backed by stronger weapons.

All is hopeless; how can you prevail?
They will clearly crush you; occupation is eminent
And now the look between the troops asks:
How much are you willing to sacrifice?

In the distance, you can see them-
Tanks lined up
Helicopters flying ahead
Striped banner waving
-the time has now come.

You look around yourself again
You’re almost inclined to laugh
Soldiers on foot, and a handful of tanks
You have nothing to sacrifice!

But the enemy attacks-
And anger floods through you
Vengeance overcomes you
Determination seizes you
-and you rush forward, firing.
You shoot down many men at first
You almost get confident
But the enemy is never-ending
Never without men to sacrifice

And before long, you suddenly stop-
A shot rings out
Your chest suddenly burns
Your body panics
-and you fall to the ground.

Your vision’s getting hazy, your energy is draining
You exhale a sigh, for you knew it all along
Justice is irrelevant; America will always win
But now you know what you were willing to sacrifice

And as you gasp for breath-
You see enemies grinning down at you
You think of your loved ones
You mourn for your country
-and you die.

Another brave soldier, now forgotten and unknown
Valiantly fought against cruelty, but sadly fought in vain
And the whole event becomes lifeless words in a book
And no-one acknowledges his noble sacrifice.
