I didn't mind it. I think you'd be hard pressed to find some link to communism in it.

I'm not saying don't try. I'm just saying I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Maybe someone else slightly less retarded than myself can help.
If all else fails, just go off on a tangent about how the red in her letter betrays her true intention of bringing socialism to the town.

Okay....here goes...work with me on this one....
The story is a metaphor for McCarthyism. The scarlet letter is the public hearings and blacklisting of suspected communists.
I know...it's reaching.

scarlet letter is one of my all time favourite books. no lie.
communist relations are indirect. you have to compare Prynne to the communists of the fifties and sixties, and even of today. shunned and persecuted by society on a basis of their beliefs. the idea of prynne as an adulteress contradicts the communist movements idea of "free love".
if anyhing, the book is vaguely in favour, that is, supportive of communism. at the very least it is in opposition to the status quo of a population blkindly ostracizing and mistreating people in a cruel way on a basis of their beliefs.
hawthornes absolute greatest story is young goodman brown.
