I'm trying to convince my friend that we have to do something about globalisation, so does anyone know of any good books that might convince her. The stupid thing is, she doesn't have any ideas of how to deal with the exploitation but she's happy to criticise mine, I hate that but I guess I just have to deal with it. She sees the shit in the world, but is happy to live in it because she has a nice enough life, I hate that too. Please, please can someone give me some book titles that she might read and believe, because whatever I say she thinks I'm being unrealistic. Also any other books about various leftist themes would alos be appreciated, I'll give her No Logo when I buy it and see what she thinks of that.

If she can identify and recognize the exploitation that is happening in this day and age. And she decides that it isn't worth her time, I doubt any book in the world could convince her. She's a lost cause.

i know of a few books about globalization. some arent' biased but if she educates herself, and has any sense/heart, she should be able to make the right decisoins.
Try: 'the lexus and the olive tree'
'jihad vs. mcworld'
'terror of the machine'
'victims of progress'

THere is a book called Global Spin that is interesting, but didn't fit the criterea for 'useful' in my latest essay (Canadian corruption), but I think it would be useful for you. I should go run down stairs and get it, but I am smuggling time on.

Not exactly anti globalization, but:
Steal this Book-Abbie Hoffman
Woodstock Nation-Abbie Hoffman
Stupid White Men-Michael Moore
All the other works by these two.

The Lexus and the Olive tree would NOT be a good book to read on globalization if a beginner. this book is horribly biased for globalization, and Friedman doesnt even do a good job doing that. the entire time i read that book i was pissed. better than that whole book of endless nonesense is an essay written in response to that book: BURN THE OLIVE TREE, SELL THE LEXUS - by Greg Palast and Oliver Shykles (http://www.unamericanactivities.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=124). this essay writes all of the things that Friedman didnt bother to mention.
also, check out Ethnocide and the IMF by John McMurtry, Professor of Philosophy University of Guelph (http://landru.i-link-2.net/monques/ethnocideimf.html). this is slightly shorter, but good nonetheless.
those two articles are a great start, and if you need some more, please, PM me. a publication i am involved with on my college campus is putting out a paper soon, in which their is a great article on globalization. if you would like to see that, i can get you a copy of it soon. otherwise you can wait for it to get out on the net at http://www.thirdworldforum.org.

Empire by Antonio Negri is supposed to be good. Haven't read it myself yet, because the hardcover edition is thirty-something Euros where I live. I guess I'll have to wait until there's a paperback edition :(
And of course, if you haven't done so yet, check out http://www.attac.org there you will find PLENTY of information on globalization.
