I think this (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/02/world/middleeast/02mideast.html?ref=world) can give a good argument for that.
Only weak countries will be those actually punished for human rights violations because weak countries do not receive as great of recognition as countries as the US and Israel.
This is not the only case where the west has gotten away with atrocities that any other country would be punished for. The US use of torture is well known, Columbian soldiers execute civilians and dress them as rebels, Israel sends POWs to prisons without any knowledge of when they will be released, China executes people for petty crimes, the CIA, Mossad, and European secret agencies assassinate people world wide, but none of them will ever be punished for their crimes. Only countries which have leaders with little to protect them will ever be punished for any wrongdoing.

Well, they have a purpose. There is a feel-good subculture in some countries who just need to show how good they are so they are active in human rights organisations like Amnesty (now I'm not talking about dictatorships where human rights activists are either very brave or very foolish people, but democracies where human rights activism will only give you affirming claps on the shoulder). Feel gooders are almost the worst kinds of political prostitutes, appearing as brave and compassionate without risking anything.

Activists are definitely to be respected, however the actual organizations that pretend to enforce human rights do it in the most frustrating of half-assed ways.

Amnesty activists in a country like Russia or Egypt are to be respected.
Amnesty activists in Sweden should not have any extra respect for their activism. To my experience, a lot of Amnesty members in western states are just opportunists who want other people to think they are good, to either bolster their self-esteem or help them in their political careers.

The reason why most of the organizations are useless is because they do not have guns and if they did they would probably turn into gangsters.

totally agreed. NGOs are full of spies and under control of secret agency and inside are people who are willingly on the side of this or that government (it depends who finance them).
amnesty international is shit. in sweden they help to authorities to check foreigners.
augenauf basel is shit. they will never concretely help to someone who is deported with breaking of the law, authorities must cut your hand that you get help from this organizations.

I would disagree, the activists may be pacifists, which are misguided, but not necessarily our enemies, but the leaders are not at all concerned with peace, they are very hypocritical in who they say has commited a crime, an act by one country is not a big deal, like Israel dropping white phosphate on civilians, while if a country like Iraq uses chemical weapons on civilians it is considered a horrific crime. While it both countries actions are horrific, only Iraq will be condemned. For Israel, so long as they have not commit a crime of jus ad bellum under the lie of half-truth of self defense, their crimes of jus in bello will go ignored.
