Nazis are planning to protest a workshop on fighting white supremacy and white privilege at the YWCA in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Dear Friends,
We wanted to inform you about an important event happening this
Saturday, October 3rd.
Recent developments and a community meeting last night indicate that a
neo-Nazi group named the “National Socialist Movement” is targeting an
anti-racist workshop to be held at the Minneapolis YWCA on Lake Street
from 10am-5pm.
The NSM is an anti-immigrant group that has been very active in rural
Minnesota, particularly in cities like Austin and Albert Lea. Over the
years this group’s vocal presence and messages of hate have been
growing in our communities. The NSM group has partnered with
Minnesotans Seeking Immigration Reform and the Minnesota Coalition for
Immigration Reduction, two anti-immigrant groups operating out of
southern Minnesota. The latter groups have hosted forums in Austin
with the Minutemen to support the implementation of 287G, a federal
program that seeks to authorize local police to check every day
people’s immigration status.
For those who are interested in showing unity and support for the
immigrant communities that have revitalized the Lake Street corridor,
and to stand up against hate based actions, please join the Solidarity
Against Racism gathering at the corner of Lake Street and 22nd Ave.
this Saturday from 10am-1pm.
As we train our immigrant community and allies to organize for equal
rights, it’s important that we all understand the role of racism in
the anti-immigrant movement. Below are some resources you can review
in order to learn more about the structure and funding of
anti-immigrant groups as well as some media articles that document
their activity here in Minnesota:

groups, please check out their Tanton and Fair Tree map hosted on our

Well, this little "showdown" between the small group of boneheads and hundreds of counter-protesters was a success in that it was a somewhat aggressive response to the bonehead gang, but the "leadership" of the rally was dominated by Liberals and "anarchist" lifestylist punk-rockers and "scene" kids. The Liberal organizers played intermission music in between people speaking and they played stuff like Fergie and top 40s corporate music. Seriously, wtf? But anyways, the bonehead gang is holding a "rally against illegal immigration and communism" (that's literally what they're advertising it as) later this month in another part of the state. It will be interesting to see if it turns into another lifestylist shitfest or if actual normal people and migrant workers make their presence felt. Needless to say, the lifestylists have little to no interest in creating a mass movement of workers and the poor or defeating anti-illegal immigrant policy.

Here's a funny picture from the event:

Cops and boneheads: coincidentally wearers of the same fashion, or quasi-indistinguishable forces of rightist oppression?

Regarding the fat one on the left: have we found a new Walrus Nazi? Does anyone remember that meme?? Definitely need a meme on that shit.

lifestylist shitfest

I was just looking at some photos (http://twincities.indymedia.org/2009/oct/scenes-counterdemonstration-against-nazis-midtown-ywca), and this doesn't sound like a very accurate description of the scene they represent. But hey, if turning a successful anti-fascist event in to a chance for you to shit-talk other sections of the left is your bag, have at it.

OK, using the term "shitfest" might have been a bit of an exaggeration but it was a critique of two sections of the group: The DFL-supporting, Liberal, "moderates" and the clique-y punk lifestylists; which I see as counterproductive elements.

And why shouldn't we critique actions?

a critique is something that analyzes strengths and weaknesses, successes and failures and posits a way to create more strengths and successes while reducing weaknesses and failures. i don't see any critique in your post, just shit-talking.

OK, let me try to make it more clear for you:

Strengths and successes of the event: scared off neo-Nazis right away, brought together many people interested in anti-racism and anti-fascism.

Weaknesses and failures of the event: strong presence of moderates over radicals in the event organization, lack of focusing the event on critical issues and making the connection between the anti-illegal immigrant movement, racism, and capitalism.

Improvements to make: create a more diverse antifascist movement that includes people from all cultures and draws connections between the fight for the rights of migrant workers and anti-racism.
