A classic which i avoided for the very reason that it's a classic. However, I found it a very good read, which seemed easy and manageable despite it having come from the hand of a mid 19th century Russian. Gives a good account of the extreme poverty of the time, and also the mind of a man gone mad.

I found it entertaining, although a bit hard to retain some of the minor characters names.

You should always make a list of characters in those kind of books, especially in Russian literature, where in many occasion you have a lot of characters which only appear a few times in various parts of the novel, and it is hard to remember them. Keep a list of the characters along with a short description of each. I find it really helpful.

I always mean to do that, or take nots when I'm reading factual books, but I always get wrapped up in my reading and forget. All books should have indexes.
