Hi my name is Jao and I'm from Washington State.
My friend showed me this forum because she was the one who revealed the real meaning of communism to me. I'm might still be fascist in a way, I'm here so I could learn more about leftists...I'm a really opened minded person...I don't want to cause anything bad just because I might have a completely different view.
I really want to learn and I think form what I learned from my friend that communism will really help society..
I'm here to learn it for myself...
That is all :)

Actually my friend asked me my political views....then i said I wanted an organized government where obviously the government controls everything....and i think that is fascism(correct me if i'm wrong)
But at that time i didn't really understand what communism is....so now i'm really interested in communism or other leftism..

Sorry I mislead you, Jao, into thinking you were a fascist:(.
"its totalitarian but not necessarily fascist."
could you please explain what the difference is?

Kim Jung Il is a totalitarian, not a fascist (he isn't a communist either though).
We have many totalitarians on board that defend Stalin, Mao, Kim Jung Il, etc.

so is my definition of leftism screwed up?? is totalitarianism leftism???
can you be both totalitarian and communist?????(i.e. you want the government to control everything, then the classes whither away, then the dictator/leaders steps down from power, with a communist society achieved.)
i am sooo confused...

I would say that you can not be totalitarian and a communist and that leninists are not communists.
I would call them leftists though, as in the left wing of capital, but thats not the way the word is used on here. On revleft leftist means almost anyone who claims they want to achive communism/socalism though a revolution.
definitions vary depentind on who you talk to, i'm sure the totalitarian "communists" would not think me a communist.

Hi, welcome! :)
And don't worry, I guess some of us started out in a similar way.
leninists are not communists.
Nice...
As for what Q said, defending Stalin (and Mao, etc.) does absolutely not mean that you are a totalitarian, I am a Marxist-Leninist but we are far from being totalitarian or supporting totalitarian ideas! One of the basic Anti-Revisionist links: Stalin and the Struggle for Democratic Reform (http://clogic.eserver.org/2005/furr.html)
So no, since communists promote democracy, freedom, the "dictatorship of the proletariat", you can't be both, a totalitarian and a communist, that contradicts each other.

Guys, try not to confuse jao with useless sectarian asides. It's important to teach him the basic principles above all..
Anyway
In regards to the issue of state/government controlling everything, the idea of communism is that the state becomes a workers' state, controlled by the workers/people. So it's possible (even necessary) in that sense, to have complete 'government' control* as an essential part of communism. This is what is meant by 'dictatorship of the proletariat'. The working class seizes state power and gains complete control of society.
*what some describe as totalitarianism, but tbh i think thats a useless and vague word
Hope this helped

it's not in the least sectarian to state my political position, it would be dishonest and counter productive to try and pretend anarchism and leninism are in anyway compatible, and the basic principles of anarchism are fundamentally different to the basic principles of leninism

That's bullshit. Both want to abolish capitalism and establish communism/socialism. The only major differance is on the state. But again, it's best to teach him what communism is before digressing into the issue of the state.

it sounds like you don't actual know what anarchism is, there entire approach to how capitalism should be abolished and communism established is different. as well as what is meant by socialism.
For example anarchists almost universally consider the ussr to have been capitalist, while most leninsts think it was socialist at some point.
So we ccan see that leninists and anarchists may both say they want to establish socialism but what they mean is entirely different.

We have many totalitarians on board that defend Stalin, Mao, Kim Jung Il, etc.
We also have many reactionaries who call themselves communists, but oppose all ongoing communist revolutionary movements tooth and nail.

Immediately after the revolution, the newly founded society needs to be protected against political, economic and military actions by the former ruling classes and their foreign allies. That is why a strong workers' state is necessary. Now, as the masses progress towards communism, they participate more and more in the communist party, they transform themselves more and more into proletarians, they more and more engage in activities of the state. Thus, at the point where communism starts, we have no communist party, no state, and no class which is in any way distinguishable from the masses.
