PLAF calls upon PGFTU to expose Histadrut and campaign actively for international labor boycott

The Progressive Labor Action Front called upon the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions to issue a clear statement on the statement of the Zionist labor organization, the Histadrut, claiming mutual relations with the PGFTU, on September 26, 2009. The PGFTU already agreed to fully halt all relations with the Histadrut and commit to an anti-normalization position, as well as to the national Campaign for the Boycott of Israel, of whigh the PGFTU is a member, with a representative on its coordinating committee.

The PLAF called upon the PGFTU to immediately correct the situation and reaffirm its adherence to the decisive national commitment to the rejection of all forms of normalization, and to take action to urge international labor unions, particularly those in the European Union, to join in the boycott of the Histadrut and to fully embrace the campaign for boycott, divestment and sanctions against the Israeli occupier.

The PLAF noted that the Histadrut is engaging, as part of the world Zionist movement, in an international campaign designed to undermine international labor support for the Palestinian people and to oppose the Palestinian and international campaign for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel. As part of this campaign, the Histadrut issued a statement on "peace and co-operation" posted on the website of the International Confederation of Trades Unions on September 11, 2009.

The Histadrut statement denounced the Palestinian and international boycott campaign and called upon labor organizations to reject the united Palestinian demand for isolation of Israel. This reflects the nature of the Histadrut, which has been since its founding a basic component of the Zionist movement, based on racism, ethnic cleansing and the dispossession of the Palestinian people.

It claims various partnerships and relationships with the PGFTU and attempts to utilize these relationships to justify its anti-boycott advocacy. The PLAF called upon the PGFTU to make clear in all international labor fora that it rejects all forms of normalization with the occupation state - of which the Histadrut is one - and its racist, fascist components, and to mobilize all forces domestically and internationally in expanding boycott, divestment and sanctions campaigns.

In addition, the PLAF discussed the harsh realities confronting Palestinian workers, including humiliation at checkpoints and roadblocks, unemployment caused by closure and siege, and pushing workers into "illegal" work inside Palestine 48, deprived of all rights and protections for working conditions. It called upon all components of the trade union movement in Palestine to develop their work to defend Palestinian workers in an active and influential way, and confront the occupation firmly and effectively in defense of our people.

PFLP calls for solidarity with Palestinian workers facing occupation abuse

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine called upon all international labor bodies, the World Federation of Trade Unions, and relevant United Nations institutions, including the International Labor Organization, to take action against the ongoing crimes and abuses committed by the occupier against Palestinian workers.

The PFLP statement said that the latest chapter in the abuse of Palestinian workers was the border patrol chasing a car carrying workers whose only crime was seeking the livelihood of their families, causing the car to turn over, killing 5 workers and injuring 15, west of Jerusalem on October 1, 2009.

The Front expressed its condolences to the families of the martyred workers and wishes for speedy recovery to the wounded, and raised an urgent call to all international labor institutions to force the occupation state to respect international laws and agreements on workers' rights and freedom of movement.

The statement said that the occupation forces have turned Palestinians' search for a livelihood into a living hell and a constant humiliation. Palestinian workers are denied work permits and permission to travel and subjected to heavy fines, causing them to pursue difficult and dangerous means to reach their employment at risk to their lives and health, and leaving them open to victimization, fraud, theft and extortion.

The Front called upon all political forces to take action to support Palestinian workers and protect their rights and dignity, reiterating its rejection of all policies of economic normalization with the occupation and so-called "economic peace," saying this is only new terminology for a continuing war on the Palestinian working class. It called for an end to all of the Oslo-era economic agreements with the occupier, saying all of these agreements produce a net profit to the occupation from the suffering of our workers.

The PFLP called upon all international labor bodies and forces to take action to boycott, divest from, sanction and isolate the occupation state for its crimes against Palestinian workers and the Palestinian people. It called upon all labor organizations to cut ties with the Histadrut, as it is part and parcel of the occupation and the Zionist regime, and take up campaigns in solidarity with Palestinian workers.
