Hi, my name is Kait and I'm from southern New York. I'm an IT specialist and student, and I'm in my mid-twenties. I was an anarcho-capitalist (no-government American libertarian) for the last few years, but I reevaluated a lot of things recently, and now I'm a socialist n00b :D. I'm looking to learn more about socialism and lefty approaches to problems in general.
EDIT: Oh, I'm trans too. I've seen that there are people here who are opposed to transphobia, so I guess I feel OK posting that.

Welcome.
How did you switch your views so extremely? From ancap to socialist views is quite some change.

Well, it was kind of a slow build-up to a sudden break. I'd been really miserable trying to defend a system that just seemed to get worse and worse, and I found that the excuses like "Oh, it's the government's fault it's like that" were ringing hollow. I just woke up one morning and said "You know, screw this. Capitalism doesn't work, and it's immoral to further it." I reconsidered liberalism (really center-right) for all of 5 minutes before deciding they're just as beholden to the current system as any conservative. I went leftwards.

Oh, and if you think that's a change, I was an Objectivist for a while when I was much younger. Now that's some crazy.

Oh yeah, and I felt so much better afterwards. No more cognitive dissonance.
It's funny seeing things from the other side and realizing just how un-frickin-believably biased Americans are against socialism.
