Seriously, I've nearly completed the anderson bio of him...... and I can't find a middle name anywhere. Or maybe he's from one of those weird families that don't believe in middle names for the first born...... but either way, can someone help me with this or something....... (preferably not the 'something'; a name will do superbly)

I couldn't find it either. Of course it was Ernesto "Che" Guevara in his later years, but I looked through the first few pages and I couldn't find it.

I got his full name from "Bolivian Diary" intro and "Guerilla warfare" intro as well.
It is Ernesto Guevara de la Serna.
He had no middle names(I am not Spanish but I guess de la Serna means something like that).
BTW,Anderson's biography is fantastic and everybody should have it,leftist or not.

When Che gets his doctors degree he rings his father and answers his phone: "Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna"
I suppose it's not a middle name, I don't think he has one but this is what some countries do, put both parents names together.

Ernesto's father was called Ernesto Guevara Lynch, [Guevara being his father's name] and His mother was something something de la serna.
So what they do is you have your pa's pa's and your ma's ma's names. Confused already?

It is a bible. I can't put it down, so I'm holding it as i write. The last chapter and the photos are the best. I hate the appendix, it's boring!

Don't spoil the end for me.
In Spanish culture they add the mother's maiden name to the end of their name. It's fun! Try it yourself!

Not in Argentina, and that's why it's so funny for us that his coffin had his mom's maiden name on it. For us it was just Guevara Lynch not Guevara de la Serna, it's ridiculous here. I know that in the rest of the latin american countries it is very common to use the mother's maiden name, but not here that's for sure.

Feli, you can request a copy of Che's birth certificate to the following address:
[email protected]
They used to send a jpg or pdf file as far as I can recall.
PS: Also, there is something curious about the double last names. In Argentina only the upper class use double last names. What's common is to have just ONE last name, your father's. And in some Latin American countries, it's kind of "mandatory" to use both last names' your father's and your mother's coz if you have only one last name, it means that your mom is a single (not married) mother. weird, isn't it?
In Cuba it's common to use your pa's and your ma's last name, maybe this is the reason why he was "labeled" Guevara de la Serna (Too weird for Argentina)

That is very strange, Larissa. I'd imagine the Cuban tradition is the reason. A lot of the time people are given or use long pretentious names, and throw in a few initials and what not. Possibly a part of it (although posthumously, I'd imagine).
