Yay, new weapons race. That'll work to bring peace and food for all...

Libya and Venezuela are too small to bring weight to such an alliance. Brazil, India or China would be needed in order to drag the mass of the countries into their orbit.

I think Kazakhstan, Chad, Switzerland, Nebraska, and Bolivia should form an Ultra Alliance of land locked nations.

In all seriousness though. if such a "southern alliance" like SATO or something were to take place. it would give more reason for the west to afflict the south with economic problems.

It would be the Cold War all over again. I support NAM in principle but in reality it is pretty useless, smaller alliances like ALBA are far more productive.

I can sympathize with Chavez's want to defend himself but all this would do is clearly draw up battle-lines between north and south. The last thing we need is a bourgeois alliance to the north and what would be a largely bourgeois alliance to the south.
