'Pre- colonial Africa' is very broad. Can you be a little more specific on what areas or dates your interested in ?

Like right before colonization. Don't have much of a preference on where in Africa we're talking about.

Even in the 1900's most of africa was carved up thanks to the berlin conference.

Yes, african slaves were forced to learn the language of their buyers, but also to adopt their customs and religion.

Just got that from the library.

Unfortunately, it's about the third world during the cold war, which is a good 3-400 years after what I'm looking for.
