View Full Version : What's a good job for a lefty like me?

So I'm outta work again, looking for a decent job.
I'm a hard worker, but I absolutely hate work in a capitalistic society, the abuse from the boss, being treated like a machine instead of a human, the job being designed to maximize efficiency which makes it as unpleasant as possible etc

So, what's a good job for a commie?

Sell heroin to children.

I know yr joking, but I actually used to sell heroin, and my house was routinely broken into.
And if I were going to go that route, I would simply sell the children, they make excellent mules if one has them swallow balloons. Of course several children are needed, as balloons do dissolve occasionally...

So far I like the van idea.

As far as rentboy, as it is now I routinely offer myself out for free and have a hard time procuring customers!

By cops or by people who wanted to steal your heroine?

By cops or by people who wanted to steal your heroine?

Well, once by cops.

But mostly because people would give me precious things to hold until they got me money for the dope, usually skateboards, jewelry, someone's baby brother once, a car, someone once gave me their dog to hold, etc; then they'd occasionally break in and steal their stuff back.
I'll admit this was rare, as I rarely left the house. I had people bring me food etc and when I did it was for a few hours and I usually had people stay behind to guard the place.
Eventually, I decided it wasn't worth it and stick to moving weed and acid/shrooms, occasionally coke.
This was years ago, I haven't been involved in anything since.

Well, where i was it worked a bit differently. Normally, I agree, but it really depends on the click, it's interesting.
One more horrific story, a guy left to get money and left his girl to stay with me as a guarantee, before he went he told me that his girl had 2 titanium rods in her back because of a spinal injury, and, since they were valuable, he gave me permission to rip them out if he didn't return.
Fond memories.

Anyway, I'm also looking into night jobs that look pretty mellow.

Since you're a Christian, maybe getting involved with a ministry of some kind? There's bound to be some church in NY that needs a Janitor or something ( I don't know your level of education ). Or pray that revolution happens sooner :p

Sex work.

Or just a job where you can work without supervision or even a direct boss (though obviously most jobs have a boss around somewhere, they're not always directly involved in your workplace).

I used to work at a Sports Camp, I got paid for teaching kids 12-15 how to play basketball, football, lacrosse, etc.
Then I worked for the leaders in training division, and my lesson plan included animal farm and what could have been done to stop Napoleon from destroying the animal revolution.
I then taught them conflict theory sociology and how it compares to functionalism and symbolic interactionism.

I'm assuming everyone knows that Karl Marx is the father of conflict theory.

Well firstly, we all hate work under capitalism mate :)

I'm in a similar situation, at the moment I am looking for part time work and have been for a while, whilst also thinking about a career, so in a way I have considered this question.

I think the first thing to note is something Devrim said which is true. Under capitalism practically any job you can get is going to be boring and tiring. So the idea of doing something like van driving because its 'fun' is contentious. I am sure many van drivers would disagree.

Obviously firstly this depends on your qualifications. Do you have a degree? Would you consider doing a university course which gives training and get one? This is a consideration.

On the question of a 'job for a communist', I don't think that comes into it that much. Theres the obvious ones to avoid - police, prison officer, etc, but aside from that its your choice. Maybe go for something where there is a good union you can get involved in. Or a job where you get to help people, without sounding too cliched.

I'm going through this question at the moment too so I feel solidarity with you.

Do some volunteer work. Some organisations pay your upkeep for the duration of voluntary work (is it voluntary then?). Consider that.

Get a well paying unionized job in the service industry, it shouldn't be that hard to get plus you won't need fancy degrees for jobs like engineering or whatever other people mentioned.

(I assume you're implying this job isn't permanent)

Get a well paying unionized job in the service industry, it shouldn't be that hard to get. Does well paying unionized jobs exist in the service industry? They are not easy to get in the crappy financial crisis times. I applied to about 15 such jobs in the last month and haven't got a single one.

Being unemployed is hard work.

You're full of shit. Every post for you has to have you referencing some horrendous story of street crime. What, do you need to pump up your street cred with the fuckin starry eyed kids here?

Look, we don't need story #10,057 about you and your child molester dinner buddies.

And, FYI, titanium is like $9-10 bucks a pound. Meaning you would have gotten 20 bucks off this shit. If this were true, which I doubt, all this proves is that you were a dumbass.

That's a sick story and I would hope that if it not's true, of which I'm not sure of, then that it was a joke made by the guy.

I could do some real ugly shit to a person if they ever did anything like that to someone close to me.

I used to hear stories from my students and one way to guess at the plausibility of them sometimes is to just note their frequency and absurdity.

The people I've met who've been in those types of circles don't even have email addresses, much less regularly use the internet. They had nice cellphones, average cars, and other accoutrements of their lifestyle but they didn't, by any means, exactly rotate in the circles that an average human being does.

Every post? Tell daddy the truth - yr exaggerating aren't you?
I'm a pretty st8 fellow and have been for over 7 yrs now, if u saw me you'd think, 'my, I bet that cap is good at chess' (although I'm not.)
This is chit chat so I really didn't think anyone would mind.
I'm sorry if I offended yr delicate sensibilities. Do crime stories make yr tummy hurt? I'm sorry.
I don't know about street cred since this is a forum - digital cred?
Yea, thats why I let everyone know I;m a Christian, cuz that gets alot of respect here on revleft.
Anywhosal, the story is true, the girl had 2 rods in her back and 2 more at home which she kept after they had to be replaced do to growth. She kept them because she said they were like a part of her.
And I didn't have a clue how much titanium costs back then and I don't now. I get nightmares from horror flicks so the idea that I would cut someone open -even for a billion dollars is absurd. I still feel it was a wonderfully creative solution from the guy though.

I didn't think you "needed" any stories, but I'm glad you said something, cuz if theres one thing this world needs more of, its some self-righteous idiot whining and *****ing about some shit that doesn't matter in the least. More conflict...

Anyway, these are all really good suggestions. Thanks everyone! I just hate not knowing.
