How Web 3.0 will work (How Stuff Works) (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/web-30.htm)
The above link paints a very Orwellian picture of Web 3.0 and focuses too much on upgrades to search capabilities. It mentions that Web 1.0 was the original stage where the hardware was developed, Web 2.0 (YouTube, social networking, etc) was the software being upgraded, so according to the founder of the Internet (no, not Al Gore) Web 2.0 technically isn't Web 2.0. Web 3.0 will supposedly be an systematic upgrade of the way the Web works, using A.I. as well as changing the face of the web to further interactivity and hybrid information systems.
Perhaps the real new future of the Internet is in virtual reality. Now Second Life is the proto "Web 3D". Second Life is a 3D online massively multiplayer online world. As someone who has played Second Life, it is far more than a game, it acts as a simulation of real life. The next step in that is of course to change it from something you can experience looking into a computer into something you can experience through your own senses. eXistenZ is a good movie about this, though there are of course a plethora of others that explore the issue.
