Just last year, I used to be really deep into the whole conspiracy theory.
I still believe in it, but not in the exact same way I first did.
What I want to talk to you about, is the uprising of a new right-wring. But first lets start with the beginning.
Conspiracy theories have always existed, due to the paranoid nature of mankind. Some of them are more then 250 years old and still persist under a different form, evolving in time to match the fears of a certain category of the population, and as a reflection of the times.
For instance, Hitler used the idea of a Masonic-judeo-Bolshevik conspiracy to justify the genocide he tried to perpetrate on the Jewish communities in Europe.
But what about now days? What ideologies are hidden behind the ideas that are widely propagated on the internet?
First, lets analyze the components of conspiracy theories. They all involve a group of man(mostly referred to as "Illuminati"), who manipulate the political chess-board to their convenience in the only purpose of making profit and to reach their goal. In all of them the ultimate goal that they reach towards, is world domination, directed by a one world governement(New World Order, often abbreviated as NWO, you've might have seen these initials in comments left by freaks on youtube). And all of these theories are trigged by a significant event in time(for Hitler it was the revolution of Red October and the german defeat in WWI, in the 60's it was the assassination of JFK, and recently, 9/11).
In the era following the second world war, conspiracy theories have been left to people who where paranoid and who saw sign everywhere(the most famous is the all-seeing eye on top of a pyramid on the american bill of 1$). These person where widely inoffensive and generally apolitical.
But the recent outburst of these theories was provocated by to factors. The first being the incredible flow of information in circulation due to the spreading of the Internet all across the globe, and the second was provoked by the 9/11 events.
The first question that conspiracy theorist asked themselves when they discovered the world trade centre attacks fraud, is that they ask themselves what could possibly the reason behind such act? What could motivate this group of person to wipe out 3,000 of their own citizens? The answer came as a bill called the Patriot Act 2. So for them it was settled that the September 11th events were created and applied with the only objective of restraining civil rights and wage war against other nation with the purpose of robbing them of their natural resources and install a regime favourable to their goals(what we Marxists call imperialism).
Then, arrived religion! Most of these theories are developed in the United Sons of Assassins, where religious fables are a great part of peoples stupidity. Religious people reinforced the already existing idea that the Illuminati are satanic persons, and they have hidden satanic symbols every where. With these nut jobs in the place, what had to happen happened, right wring ideas came along.
Most conspiracy theorist view neo-liberal politics as bad, they don't vote for the republicans nor for the democrats, as they think they don't really govern the country(the only one they consider voting for is Ron Paul, a guy who'll never be elected as president, and everyone knows it.
They are against imperialism and Zionism and profess the return to full sovereignty for each nation. Some of them keep on defending their 200 years old constitution that was written by a bunch of rich religious morons. Most of them want some kind of conservative anarchy ruled by the good will of God all shitty. They speak often against Fox News, but still repeat the same idiotic ideas(patriotism, an inch of racism, insulting people like us by saying that obama is a communist....). They view Obama as the anti-Christ who is here to do the devils work in the name of the Illuminati.
Some of the wildest ideas are:
-that the Illuminati are Jewish satanic reptilian extra-terrestrials.
-that Hitler was doing a good thing.
-that the government wants to take their guns away from them to leave them defenceless.
Now the Point of this thread is not to debate on wither or not a conspiracy does exist, but to find a way to educate does people.
The first thing that they should understand is that nationalism is not going to do any good. For the problem with this ideology is that it's built up on the pride of ones nation and the superiority of this one on others, wich creates hatred, isolation and war.
The second thing is to explain to them that communism is not part of the conspiracy(it's easier to take from there point of view since they have a tendency to be very smug for they have the impression of knowing some kind of sacred and absolute truth). Explain to them that if the Illuminati really were behind communism, they could've easily conquer the whole world in its name and accomplish their goal 50 years ago, that they have spent to much money, time and effort on destroying, hunting, killing, torturing and trying to prove communist wrong that it makes no sens that they created it, it applies basically to any socialist ideology. Explain to them that the end of all nations doesn't mean the end of their "culture" but the end of war and misery, and the beginning of peace and solidarity. Tell them that fighting these people is part of the class war that we profess and that by annihilating the bourgeoisie, we will automatically put an end to the Illuminati.
Since most of them are "patriotic sensitive", play on it to prove them that Jews are not all bad by telling them that all (insert nationality) are bad because of their leaders.
And if you are facing a fascist, don't bother, we'll cut off their heads when the revolution arrives.
Any other idea on how to deal with conspiracy theorist are welcome
