French police have destroyed the migrant camp called 'the jungle' in Calais, they have detained 278 refugees (including over 100 children) that lived there. All tents and shacks that many people called home, were trashed in an effort to get rid of the refugees.
Many of them Afghans and Iraqis, fleeing the war zones for a better life over here, were treated brutally along with activists (some of which have been arrested).
Refugees were obviously distressed, some of them collapsing with the pressure and unnecessary force the CRS (french riot police) used.
The police have said it was a success... but clearly it was also useless, pointless and destructive. A camp will be rebuilt soon enough, but in the mean time, hundreds of innocent refugees and political exiles will be homeless...
