When I make flyers, I usualy use MS paint because I am completely computer illiterate. If I put a lot of effort on it, I usualy make a decent flyer. I'd love to know how other comrades make flyers, so I can try a more practical and aestheticaly desirable way of producting them.

The Pirate Bay (http://thepiratebay.org/) would be a good place to look it up if you want it for free. Otherwise you can buy it for a couple of hundred bucks.

Get Quark Xpress or Adobe Indesign and learn how to use it.
Both are expensive, but also found easily online (try The Pirate Bay).

How do torrents work? I got a couple of audio books from there and all it does is send me to limewire and nothing happens... there is probibly a thread already for this, but i'll ask anyway (and i'll look for the thread to)

Download uTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com). Then go to a site like pirate bay and find what you're looking for. Make sure there are some seeders. Click the link. uTorrent will open and let you select which files from the torrent you want to download. Click ok. The file(s) will download.
That's it.

You can also use Limewire for Torrents.

In honesty there's not really an ABC of it... most of it should be personal judgement, as well as judgement of your peers as well... when you're finished with a design, send it around, get some feedback.
There are a few vague rules (dont use too many fonts, especially ill matching ones... never use times new roman) - the same goes for colours. I usually use this (http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&ved=0CAoQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.colourlovers.com%2F&ei=_ZzCSoySAsSJ4QbEyPGKCA&usg=AFQjCNFbklOFbTk1VN6SQ0b7vouUu7ggYg)website to get my colour palettes. Work in a large resolution so if you have to scale it down you can, remember you can't scale up. Unless you're working with vectors that is.
Another key thing is simplicity, overpacked flyers don't catch the eye... and if they do, the information won't sink in. Avoid working in black and white, unless you're doing something slightly different with it...
Oh, and don't use paint... I recommend PS (preferably CS2 or 3)

GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) isn't as fancy as Photoshop, but it's pretty good (and FREE)

Fanatical Photoshopper here, so I have no problem with making flyers.
In all honesty however, the only flyer I had to design so far was one about a school-play...

Free is if you can find an old version of photo impression (before they over simplified it)
