I need a paper to keep up to date. I don't watch television and I won't buy anything from newscorp. I live in the Isle of Man and there are mostly English papers here. Which paper should I buy...at the moment its the guardian because I liked some of the George Menbiot articles, but is there anything better?

I'm not sure about news papers, but I'm sure you can get a subscription to Mother Jones Magazine from their website.

If you don't want to trawl through a newspaper every day then subscribe to The Week or Private Eye, otherwise get the Guardian which is the most left-wing, or the Independent, which is the next most left-wing and has loads of really good journalists who used to write for the Times but moved when Murdoch bought it.

Murdoch pisses me off, thats why the none newscorp. I have always had the point of a hegemonic marxist when viewing the media, except in that case. His direct input is not at all obvious..the Sun conservative my ass...

Well it may not obviously support the party but it shares it's views, certainly now Rebecca Wade is in control. Hvae you decided what to read yet?

are ppl like Murdoch really so right-wing as meets the eye, or doesn't he care? I personally think the latter 'cause no, such a misguided individual could ever be so extremely stinkin' rich!!

If only lol, but it tends to be the other way, there are few that aren't misguided that are rich, generally those that are either haven't got a clue or don't give a shit, which is often how they get there.

I am still reading the guardian, it is decent enough for what I need, and if there is anything overlooked I am sure some thoughtful person on here would post the relevant article for all our benifit;)

I reckon murdoch is pretty-right wing, because only right-wing politicians will keep his money safe, like with most rich people.

Glad your sticking with the Guardian, that's what I read when I'm at school, but I might go for the Independent next time I can change my order, just to see what it's like.

Yeah, I know The Star is a tabloid; however, I was referring to Morning Star " Daily Paper of the Left"

I have managed to find their website:

Oh right, sorry my mistake. I've never seen the Morning Star before! Thanks for the link.

No problem.

I was just wondering if anyone here reads it and what sort of reputation it has.

That looks great, I would order that as well but there are no suppliers on the Isle of Man and with a population of about 75000 and most retired couples, I doubt there would be enough interest for it to be ferried over with the other papers. Damn.

Neither of my two nearest newagents carry it. I happened to be in central London yesterday and saw it at a newsagents there.

The Morning Star is too Small. The Mirror and the Independent have a more professional anti war coverage but if you are a newsjunkie like me.
Try my web page.

Indeed it is, but the best paper is of course the International Leftist, due to the extreme coolness of the people who right for it ;)

International Leftist...hmmm sounds familiar. I wonder where one would find it? :)

The mornign star is ok, however its 50p for 12 pages so hardly worth it unless you want a hardline socialist view on things. I read the independant.
