Trailer is (cant post link cuase of post count, it can be found on firstshowing.net).. interesting I guess.. its a strange concept. To be honest though I cant tell if they are making fun of communism or not. Here is the synopsis:

Leon Bronstein is not your average Montreal West high school student. For one thing, none of his peers can claim to be the reincarnation of early 20th century Soviet iconoclast and Red Army hero, Leon Trotsky. When his father sends Leon to public school as punishment for starting a hunger strike at Dada’s clothing factory, Leon quickly lends new meaning to the term “student union”, determined as he is to live out his pre-ordained destiny to the fullest.

But will our young hero ever inspire his fellow students to care about anything? Will he ever convince the beautiful, and significantly older, Alexandra that she won’t be charged with statutory rape if they become engaged? And will he ever find his Lenin? Every life is full of obstacles, whether it’s yours, or Leon Trotsky’s. All we can say is that The Trotsky lays leftie claim to the notion that the revolution DOES begin in high school. And here is an interview with the director:

The trailer doesn't give much away. Providing it isn't just a vehicle for a general anti-left pisstake (it doesn't apear so), a comedy about Trotsky has to be worth seeing, if only for novelty value. Could be good product placement reaching an audience rarely exposed to any ideas of revolution.

Nice. I'm certainly going to see it. Certainly some crappy theatre in Montreal is going to show it, since it was filmed here.
Going there with Trotskyist newspapers can be effective, depending on the film

Rushmore anyone?

Apparently he is executed at the end from what it says in the summary of the trailer so the bigger question is where is his Stalin and how will they work in the ice pick?

Rushmore anyone?

I didn't know this film but prompted by your post I downloaded and watched it. Mildly amusing but I thought they missed a trick by not taking his rebeliousness further. Looks like a similar set up though but I hope and expect that The Trotsky takes that extra step.

This premise sounds utterly unoriginal, like a socialist form of one of the crap american comedies they are churning out these days, each one surpassing the last if only in the realm of shite, which is something of an acheivment i suppose
