Hello from Northern England

Hello there.

I came across this board by accident when I was reading some stuff about those EDL idiots who have been in the news lately. I've only ever joined one political forum before and had to quit it because it was so very depressing but being a gent, I won't say which one it was...;)

I'm not active much apart from the daily fights with my co-workers with their reactionary bullshit and casual racism. I enjoy a fight with the bosses and I'm a member of the IWW. I nearly joined the Anarchist Federation but I bottled it thinking I am a bit old for them (40 and a family etc etc).

I got introduced to anarchist politics in the early 80s by the punk scene and it stuck with me. Seems the only sensible option to me but I'm happy to work with anyone going in the right direction.

I love art, football and watching Family Guy with my kids.

Anyway, I've read a few threads and it seems interesting here so i thought I'd sign up.

I think daily fights with "co-workers with their reactionary bullshit and casual racism" is greatly underrated. After all, it's their attitudes that need changing. All the intellectual naval gazing and theorising in the world won't ever change a thing.

And your never too old... we need more wise old heads around here. We already have plenty of youthful exuberence . ;)

i heard the average age of AFed members is 12, so you made the right choice

only joking, they are a good group, you wouldn't be out of place, its quite diverse, especially in london, don't let being older put you off it'd do the scene some good ot have more older people involved. i'd say alot of people in the scene are around 40 anyway.

As a few people've said, there's a decent amount of 40-somethings and parents in the AF. If you don't mind me asking, whereabouts in the North do you live? Feel free not to answer if I'm being lazy. Welcome, anyway.

Maybe I'll think again about joining the AF if I'm not going to be the only oldie. I don't mind being called old but hang fire on the 'wise' comments! You might change your mind about that when I get started :D
