So, I've been listening to a lot of Chuck Berry and one of my favorite punk bands has a distinct 50's rock sound to them...I was just wondering where else should I go from here?

I'm a little upset that I never gave this music a closer look.

Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Ricky Nelson and Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

They have distinct pre-punk sound, especially Eddie Cochran.

Check out the 'Blues' series produced by Martin Scorcese. The Blues are fundamental for understanding and appreciating Rock.

Punk is just rock n roll in its simplest, most stripped down form. I get the same rush out of hearing "Keep on Knockin" by Little Richard as I do by hearing "Word Attack" by the Adolescents. Check out any of these guys for some good early rock n roll: http://www.sunrecords.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=category&sectionid=4&id=15&Itemid=123
