first off i know nothing about poetry. not how to write it not reading it, nothing! ok, that being said, this is a poem i wrote when i was in school in Oxford. many bored nights watching the rain/snow fall led me to take up writing. here you go, enjoy

Hero
War hardened through and through
Now war is over and i come home to you

Do you greet me with open arms like a greatful nation shoud do?
No, you call me murder, baby killer, and rapest too

I ask "What have i done?"
Followed orders to a T
Risked life and limb for democracy

Do you think i choose to do what i have done?
Do you think i wanted to kill? anyone? a single one?

You don't know what war is like
What it will do to a man

To see your bestfriend die
To have his blood on your hands

You think you are so righteous
Like you are better than me?

Then fight your own damn wars you don't need me!

i have more but i will let this one serve as a barometer of my ablity. i will say this, poetry is a great therapy. writing this shit got me through some pretty dark times in my life. without this and massive amounts of drugs and booze i might not have made it back across the pond.

I think it's great for an early work! I suggest you check out some poets as well, read some of their stuff and let it influence you. Some greats are:

Sylvia Plath
John Betjemen
Carol Ann Duffy
Yeats
RS Thomas
Blake
Ted Hughes

That's just a small selection of some of the best known names, there are millions more. Good luck with your writing!

words like sounds give vibes and the vibes of your work is good. like you need to express something more.

or maybe thats just how i feel. its inspiring in any matter.

sorry it has taken me soo long. been sick and busy. here is another piece i wrote in oxford. once again fueled by booze and bordem.

Help and Helpless

A world of wealth and a world of poverty

Champagne dreams or pipe dreams?

People with ten houses, ten people without homes

Hundred dollar dinner or dinner for a hundred

Buisness man hungers for millions while millions go hungry.

Yet you don't see the problem!

Pull the shades over my eyes, hide them from the truth.

Keep me sheltered from reality.

If i don't see, i may not have to do

Day to day i go on living the lie

I have all i need and after all, i'm only i

what difference can one man make?

I give my spare change, i'm happy to donate

but still you want more what else can i do?

i'm only one man and besides, 'why should i help you?'
