why can't they just play rugby in America?
why all the protection clothes in american football? why only just a teeth protector like in rugby countries. that makes the sport more intense or doesn't it? I'm a dutch guy and american football is not known in holland.
soccer is the number one game over here.
and how does it work with the yardlines and when do you score a touchdown?
and is it the number one sport in the u$a? or is it basketball ore baseball?
but I prefer rugby over american football it's tougher. i like that.
but still can somebody tell me something about the american variant of rugby?

[QUOTE = Bandito; 1546241] Waarom niet noemen we het Amerikaanse voetbal?
;)[/ QUOTE]
I think that soccer is a stupid name for what actually football is. soccer sounds almost like sucker. :)

why can't they just play rugby in America?
Presumably because american football is more popular there.
why all the protection clothes in american football? why only just a teeth protector like in rugby countries. that makes the sport more intense or doesn't it? I'm a dutch guy and american football is not known in holland.I had this explained to me once, it's basically because of the ways tackles and blocks are handled in american football, they tend to be much faster and much more violent. You are much more likely to get proper fucked up when some lumbering behemoth shoulders your chest than when someone of similar build simply takes your legs out. I'm not an expert on either sport though, so I can't really tell you the differences.
I'm English and American footboall is mainly mocked over here. One of my mate's parents though is keen on the game so I've learned a bit about it.
and how does it work with the yardlines and when do you score a touchdown?I think the yardlines are something to do with where play resumes after a player has been knocked over. Touchdowns are scored once the ball (or is it player with the ball) is over the touchline; unlike in rugby there does not need to be any downward pressure on the ball.
and is it the number one sport in the u$a? or is it basketball ore baseball?I read somewhere that it was baseball. Fuck knows why I can't believe that baseball watching yanks have the temerity to call footie boring.
but I prefer rugby over american football it's tougher. i like that.
but still can somebody tell me something about the american variant of rugby?:confused:Saying you like rugby over american football is like saying you like cricket over baseball. They share superficial similarities but they are disimillar enough to be very different games. I'm really not sure about which sport is "tougher" and I refuse to be dragged in to pointless macho posturing
Finally american football is no more a varient of rugby than gaelic or aussie rules football. Originally football had very few rules and a lot of quite disimillar games grew out of it, with association football ("soccer") proving most popular.

It's not american given at all. It's from England and it came about as a way of shortening "association" (as in association football) late in the 19th century. I don't know why it fell into disfavour but it is not generally used here anymore.

I'm a bit naive maybe with those things but I'm open for this kind of facts. thanks.:)

American football is by far the most popular sport in america. Followed by NASCAR auto racing or as I like to call it "Rednecks in circles." Then baseball and basketball. Foreign games like Ice Hockey (my fav sport) soccer (or football if you prefer) and rugby get almost no publicity in the US.

why can't they just play rugby in America?
People do, but it is generally an upper-class white sport like lacrosse, polo, or row over here.
why all the protection clothes in american football? why only just a teeth protector like in rugby countries. that makes the sport more intense or doesn't it?
I think they should go back to the one bar on the helmet, but the protection can make a hit hurt more.
and how does it work with the yardlines and when do you score a touchdown?
You get the ball on your side, and you make it to the other it's a touchdown, basically.
When you are tackled, you are down. The ball is placed on this spot, and you get 4 downs to make it 10 yards. On the 4th, you have the option to punt the ball to the other team, so as not to give them good field position.
and is it the number one sport in the u$a? or is it basketball ore baseball?
By far football is #1. Baseball, then basketball are the next most popular team sports.
Nascar is very popular, usually among poorer whites ("rednecks").
but I prefer rugby over american football it's tougher. i like that.
I wouldn't know.
edit: jazzratt had a very good analysis on the differences and what it's all about, which I missed.
