I honestly have no idea why it's called the World Series, but as for what other countries play baseball I know it's big in Cuba and Japan, and there's the World Baseball Classic, I guess.

The sport is very popular in, and gets many of its players from, Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Japan, The Dominican Republic, Korea, Canada, and Taiwan.
The Major Leagues have a very high % of people not from the US, especially from latin america. So no, it's obviously not the world but it is the worlds best league, if that makes any sense.
There is a team in Canada, as well.

You know, technically he's right cause baseball players run in squares, not circles.

:rolleyes:Whatever bloody shape it is the sport is still an incredibly boring sport. Even if they ran around this:

I'd still rather watch the progress of bedsores on neglected OAPs.

Alright, you got me there jazzrat.
I believe it's one of those things you had to grow up with.
There's nothing more exciting than a pitchers duel in a game that means something (either a game in a playoff race or in the playoffs) and you can feel that moment coning when one of them is going to break and it's about to get broken wide open.
And coming back in the bottom of the 9th, with no outs to spare. So freaking exhilirating...2001 world series game 7 comes to mind.

I love the way americans hate European sports like football (soccer [sic])because the scores are too 'low'.
I was under the impression that as long as the score reaches triple figures then thats all it needs for it to be a good sport over there.

Let's be fair. Golf often gets scores in the triple figures but people who find it genuinely exsciting are people of whom you should be highly suspicious and possibly prevent from using normal cutlery.

I, um, what?
In america, that's rugby, lacrosse, polo, field hockey....
No offense to any fan of these games, but over here those are the games of the elite well to do, and their spoiled children.
Anyway, you heard it here first, LA vs NY in the world series. Actually, I'm just sayin that because, to me, it's the worst possible outcome. All the teams I had any sympathy for are already gone, but it would be nice to see New York not go, am i right?
Course, that might be better than LA vs LA. And the Phils do have a chance, don't get me wrong.
But at least it ain't Fucking Boston!!!

Outside of the United States... its rather popular in Japan and Cuba. Neither field teams that are in Major League Baseball, and therefore, can't be in the World Series.
In terms of who can play in the World Series, theres 31 American teams and a single Canadian team. But, according to a lot of people here in the states, thats enough to consider it the entire world.

It'd be epic to see Torre's Dodgers crush the Yankees. A memorable series, for sure.
It sucks being a Pirates fan. hahaha.

Actually people from many different countries play baseball and the mlb. More than half the players are from Latin America and the carribean. the MLB is the highest level of baseball in the world, so I guess the winner of it can technically call themselves the best baseball team in the world. Maybe the "championship of baseball" sounded too bland.

Phillies just won the pennant.
Philadelphia v New York would be an awesome pitching matchup.
Cole Hamels v CC Sabathia
Cliff Lee v AJ Burnett
Pedro v Petite

They won the world series in 1909, 1971, and 1979. You guys have won more than the Cubs.

They're also the first american proffesional sports team to have completed 17 consecutive losing seasons, and the streak is still alive.
