Anti-Nama campaigners today urged support for a mass protest claiming it could destabilise the coalition and throw the Governments plans into chaos.

Trade unionists, left-wing politicians and community activists are organising a Dublin march against the proposed toxic assets agency and Government cutbacks.

The United Alliance Against Cuts group claim the Government is allowing bankers, speculators and developers to rob the least well off in society.

Richard Boyd-Barrett, People Before Profit, said a big turn-out for the march could push the Green Party and nervous Fianna Fil backbenchers to vote against Nama.

If we get a big enough protest I think it could crack the resolve of the Greens to stay in this Government, he said.

Equally weve seen with Fianna Fail backbenchers ... that there is real unease among Fianna Fil TDs who fear they may lose their seats.

I think if sufficient public pressure is put on those TDs over the coming weeks it could break the resolve of even some Fianna Filers to carry this thing through.

UAAC launched its protest plans outside the National Treasury Management Agency in central Dublin, with activists dressed up as robbers supposedly representing bankers, developers, Nama and the Commission on Taxation.

The march will take place on September 19, beginning with a rally at Parnell Square before walking through the city, past the Dil and finishing outside Anglo Irish Bank on St Stephens Green.

Mr Boyd-Barrett said tens of thousands of people could turn out given the swell of anger among the public.

Sinn Fin TD Aengus OSnodaigh, who also attended the launch, said there was huge potential to stop the Nama project as there was anger across the political spectrum.

However, Socialist Party MEP Joe Higgins said while people must protest to vent their anger he did not think backbenchers would vote against the Government when Nama comes before the Dil.

Members of the alexpatterson IRSP cumman attended the Rally it was well enough attended with members of the SWP and residents of Letterkenny on Saturday.
Eamon Mc Cann gave a rousing speech followed by Thomas Pringle who committed himself to work against the NAMA project on Donegal County Council.
The main theme of the speeches was the complete pandering to the Developer elite by FiannaFail and the astronomical amount of Irish peoples money that is going to be poured in to NAMA whilst screening for cervical cancer in Irish women is being scrapped because of a price tag of 10million is too expensive, mere pocket money compared to the Anglo Irish bail out and the NAMA project.
Fair play to the SWP and its supporters for a good day.

A call-out to organise an Anti-NAMA March to the Dil on Wednesday, September 16th

Let them hear us loud and clear!

This is a call-out to organise an Anti-NAMA March to the front gates of the Dil on Kildare Street on the day that they will be discussing it; Wednesday, September 16th.As people may be aware; indymedia.ie article 93622; And indymedia.ie article 93620; there are already two major protests against the greatest reverse bank robbery of all time; namely NAMA; which will bankrupt, cripple and deflate the Irish economy for an entire generation; unless we force this government to scrap NAMA completely. These two protests; which look like they're going to be massive; take place on the Saturday before; and the Saturday after the NAMA legislation is to be debated in the Dil; which is going to be on Wednesday, September 16th. Therefore, I am proposing that we a have a third Anti-NAMA March in addition to the two that are already taking place; but that this one happens on the day that the Dil debates the NAMA legislation; Wednesday, the 16th of September; and that this time; that we March right up to the front gates of Leinster House on Kildare Street; so that they can hear us loud and clear: "We don't want your NAMA here!"; and "No bail-outs for bankers and property speculators!"; and "Money for health, education and other vital public services; and to stimulate the economy!" "Not for banks!". This time we insist on marching up to the front gates of the Dil; and we don't let them stop us. A large enough crowd will stop them trying to intimidate us.

I am hoping that this article will spark off suggestions and ideas as to how we can make a demo on 16th September so big that they can't ignore us (Ignore us at their peril); and we can start organising and building for it from now. We only have less than four weeks to get this organised; so if we're serious about this; we need to start organising this from right now. I am certainly going to do whatever I can to get such a large turnout on the 16th; that they can't ignore us; by mobilising all my workmates; their families and friends; my family and friends; and everybody that I know in the community;; to turn-up on September 16th. I am also going to endavour to get a mass turn-out from my Union; and hopefully others reading this will as well from their Unions; and if anybody from the Dublin Council of Trade Unions (DCTU) is reading this; mobilise the DCTU and have the DCTU banner present as well. I will be taking the day off work that day; and I will certainly be pushing others; whether they are are workers, school-children or students to take the 16th of September off; even if as I suspect the Union leaderships ignore; and indeed try to sabotage this protest; and the other two protests. So let's start firing out the suggestions; and get the ball rolling,

In the Greek Myths Pandora opened her box and released all of the evils and ills of the world. NAMA is supposed to be an attempt to shove some of them back in. But the political and economic situation in the state means that whatever the bourgeois try to do, they will undermine themselves. As Leon Trotsky once explained; every step they take to try and create a social, economic and political equilibrium will only serve to undermine them further. NAMA is a symptom of the crisis on one level. But at the same time, it threatens to further destabilise the situation. The coalition looks doomed.
