I recently picked this up from my collection of things to read, got about 40-50 pages into it, and realized that I could not at all understand the significance of what I was reading. I don't have the money to buy another book to help me understand right now, so I was wondering if there was any particularly good online resource I could consult to assist in my understanding or if there were any "experts" here who might be able to point me in the right direction for the types of ideas I should be keeping in mind as I read.

There are no good online resources (or none that I know of) since they all get this book badly wrong.

May I suggest you beg, borrow or 'steal' this book:

White, R. (2006), Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (Continuum Books).

This is by far and away the best book on the Tractatus written so far -- nothing even comes close. And it was written for those who are struggling with this book in simple, easy to follow English.

You can get a copy for as little as £6 ($9), if you live in the UK:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/0826486185/ref=sr_1_olp_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1252743999&sr=1-1

$3 secondhand:

I'll look into it. Maybe I can have my school's library send out for a copy, if I'm willing to wait three weeks to get started. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have exactly $7 in my bank account, so that $3 copy is looking pretty tempting...

I did pick up the $3 copy, with shipping it cleaned out my account, but the book just came in on Friday and I have a feeling it will be worth it from what I've skimmed so far. Thanks for the recommendation, Rosa.

Is there anything that is also a "must-have" for the rest of his work? I have a small collection, which includes the Tractatus, Blue Book & Brown Book, and On Certainty.

W's Philosophical Investigations is his most important work, and of the works you haven't got, the next two most important are Philosophical Remarks and Philosophical Grammar.
